My Take on X-BOSOZ

I was wondering, now that its just been Christmas and everything😀 Would BrianD be able to put a resistor upgrade kit together? I would love to see a resistor kit with Dale's or something similar😀 Yuo can count me in for 2 sets of those😉 Everytime you find a supplier with good resistors, he doesnt carry at least 2-3 of the values needed. Thats just too bad:xeye:

I just got a shipment from PE with one of the clearence trafos (and a bunch of speaker parts!). Anyway, the thing is a monster. Definitely overkill for this pre. I'll use it as a bench trafo until I find a nice home (amp) for it.

I'll do a couple secondary measurements and post them.

EDIT:

56.05 x 2
7.11 x 2
16.77 x 2

all unloaded

Yes, but will it work for this amp? I don't mind the weight.

Thanks, Terry

Well, I looked at it. It would add about $8 to the cost of the kit, but I would need to spend a lot of cash to get them all in stock, plus I just bought a ton of the other ones. If the interest is big, I will persue it further.

Mouser in the US does appear to have all the values in stock. Here are the Mouser part numbers:

71-RN60D-F-221
71-RN60D-F-27.4K
71-RN60D-F-49.9K
71-RN60D-F-10K
71-RN60D-F-100K
71-RN60D-F-39.2K
71-RN60D-F-1.5K

So, I just found out from DigiKey that the .22uF caps that were "due in any day" are now about 10 weeks out. Of course, I had to contact them to find this out.

Anyway, the only other part I can readily fond that will fit in the 5/10mm spots is the Wima MKP2, but it is 7.2mm wide, which means it will be a little tight (but possible) between R8 and R12, and to a lesser degree between R5 and D1 on the pre board. I am pretty ****ed with DigiKey (long story).

Anyway, I can get these ordered tonight and have them in time to ship, if I get the 100VAC/63VDC version. Is that okay with everyone?

To be clear, this would be for C7, C8, C9, C10, and C11.

I'd like to use the higher quality resisters. I'd pony up the extra $ to the parts kit I've pre-ordered.

Just for reference here is the pre PCB

For the Dale resistors, this would just be the 1/4 resistors we are replacing. The 2W and 3W would remain Panasonic (Matsushita). Otherwiase I would need to use Dale Wirewound resistors in these positions. Comments? Cost per kit for the 1/4W alone would be $10 (have to include shipping to me).

You would still receive the existing resistors, as I have already bought and labeled about 1200 of them.

Please comment on the .22uF Caps as well. We are starting to run up against kit shipping delays if we don;t get this sorted out.

After speaking with Russ last night, and looking at the latest (final) pic of the pre, I think the Wimas will fit just fine. The only tight spot will be the center cap between the resistor and diode, but it shoudl be okay. One or the other could always be mounted on the bottom of the board if it were too tight. Thw Wimas are about 2x the cost however, but I think I can absorb that.

Current scheduled ship date is January 30th.

One furthur note on the 2W and 3W resistors. The Panasonics in the kit have a noise figure of 1uV/V and a temp coef of 25ppm, so I think they are actually quite nice, and should be very good.

The .25W Dales would be an optional accessory, as Steen originally suggested. I would probably them the standard resistor at some point in the future (after the Xicons run out) and just bump up the kit price to accomidate them.
