My Take on X-BOSOZ

I am working out the last few details on the film caps (Russ is making a couple of adjustments for me).

I hope to finish up the BOM tonight and post it.

I intend to match the FETs for the pre. I figure 5per channel, so 10 per kit, I will need to buy around 300 to start, so there shoudl be a good pool for matching. I'll likely get started on that ASAP, as it will take some time. I already have a little jig setup for it.

New PS layout

OK, folks, since we still have like 6 or 7 board sets to go before I can order our boards I thought I would offer some incentive. 🙂

Check this out:

You can now use 5mm spaced screw down type terminal blocks for the AC and DC terminations. 🙂

And... There is a much modified arrangement for the film caps to allow for realistic 1uf MKPs and .1uf MKPs for the bypasses.

Now lets get those preorders in so I can get the PCBs made. 🙂

Cheers!
Russ

Russ, you are a true wizard, doing that Eagle stuff🙂
That is excactly the last few details I didnt want to suggest to you. Looking at the board, I didnt think the 1uF would ever fit in😀 I am glad I ordered a set of these pcb's😉
Each channel draws ~80-85mA current from both positive and negative rail.
Thanks Terry🙂

Okay, here's the near final BOM. I have two questions...

For some reason I had R3 and R4 for the pre board, but looking at the board now, I see only R3. R4 was removed?

For the - reference zeners (D13 and D14), I have 2 - 12V, givong 24V. Shoudl I change this to 3 - 9V for 21V? I will also update the part names for the Zeners to match the board (ZD+1, ZD+2, ZD-1, ZD-2 etc).

Isnt that the resistor added for burning a little mA's? I think so, in that case you can just leave it off.

That will do just fine🙂 Please notice, that you have to jumper the unused slots on the negative rail😉 Just in case you guys are planning on making a guide for building this terrific preamp😉

The three 9 volt zeners should come in a little higher than 21 volts. Two 10 volt should get it in the ballpark.
I do not think any of the parameters are very critical here. The voltages and currents are way above any minimums needed for a linestage. A rail to rail voltage of 80 volts and 150 ma per channel total current is cooking for a unit outputting 1 -2 volts and less than 1 ma.
Have enough preorders come in to cover the production run?

3x9= 27 allright😀 The fet regulator eats up something like 3 volts. Both 2x12 and 3x9, should do fine. But to keep it in the NP spirit, go for the 9,1volts.
Brian, you better check on the 220uF, FC's for the psu board! Those I can get are with 7,5mm leg space. I think the board is layed out for 5mm leg space.

Keep em coming so we can get this show on the road.
Yep, I did mine too😀 Just ordered another set of pcb's for a friend🙂 I cant believe these boards arent just ripped away😀 But ofcourse, I am the only one who have heard that preamp, so far😉 I wanted the factory boards, cause I feel quite sure, this will be my preamp for years! The coppertracks on the etched boards of mine turn ugly, after some time. I dont want that to happen with this preamp😉

Hey Brian,

I know the BOM isn't complete but I was looking over it and for C1, C2, C3, and C4 on the power supply board, there seems to be a discrepancy with the part number. The part number shows up as a 4700uF cap not a 2200uF. Just a little FYI...😀
