My take on a discrete shunt voltage regulator

I have tried that in my v1.1 for the emitter follower buffer. The active load did not put it into oscillation, but I much preferred the resistive load (a rather high one) subjectively.

Depending on the Jfet used, a resistor might actually be a better choice. The first one I tried was not much better than the 14k resistor.

Judging by what I saw simulating with my models I don't believe it makes much of a difference, so I think this is only for those who want some kind of lab supply, that will go from 10V to 80V or something like that. Otherwise not necessary (and, like you say, possibly better without). (though shunt's really are perfect for prototyping and experimenting, if you can get over the heat. Max output current is easily set)

Alright, a break between diaper changes, etched a couple of new boards, future prototypes which I hope to send for testing soooon!
