Hi again!
Because I promised, here the final version of the xo.
It´s really simple, but I of course like how it sounds.
R2//L2//C3 lowers the mids in the range of about 700 Hz-1.4kHz, so you can tune your system by simply shorting R2 for example and elevate this range - I will try it too.
Also, you can set the level of the highs with R3, obviously... 😀
So, here it is, feel free to build it 🙂
A short report regarding sound of this new version... As I wrote, I use now completely different parts, after some testing, listening, etc.; I use foil inductors, 20w Mundorf resistors, ClarityCap/Jantzen Super-Z/Mundorf/Audyn caps.
Also, the wiring ist much better and I improved the mechanical stablity too.
This results in my ears in an even better sound, period 🙂 The bass ist tighter but deeper, I really feel it in my chest, the mids are better in terms of separation of the instruments and the highs are just clearer, crisper.
So I recommend to use premium parts, you won't regret it.
Cheers
Istvan

A friend of mine, who also has Magnepans, listened to my speakers and was thrilled by the openness and spaciousness, and that the stage is not only wide and deep, but - like with the Maggies - also high.
Hi Pfarrell,
many thanks, I was about to reply, but you already found the pictures 😀
So all that remains is the script, I ordered it from Callie, a company in China. It is acrylic, they have 3-4 colors, and is self-adhesive or with screw fastening, the quality is surprisingly high.
This weekend I will share the dimensions of the baffle too.

Next step would be nice jef based active crossover, plate amps for woofers and sweeet classA for mid and tweet 🙂
Yes... but no 😀
This speaker was planned as a passive thingie.
But maybe there will be a next build (maybe wirh the nice TB 8" coaxial driver, who knows), where an active xo with 2 IceEdge-monoblocks (they are under construction now), a Scryer for the mids and an M2x for the highs could be used. Who knows? 🤔 🙈

Hi again!
The thing is... even a finished speaker is never finished
I thought I could try to use backward-firing ambience tweeters. I experimented a bit and went back to previous trials and errors, and now installed a Dayton Pro 8 in horn, crossed at around 7 kHz. The effect is great. Wider stage (starts to the left of the left speaker and ends to the right of the right one), nicer staggering of the instruments, more feeling of space, a little shine without sharpness, voices are clearer, and the sound is more stable. I didn't expect this effect and I'm very satisfied.

Hi,
just a demo, with two IceEdge 1200AS1-based monoblocks, and some room treatment.

This looks (and sounds) like a really successful effort! I found your thread by snooping around ideas for the SB20FRPC30-8... interesting that the TB worked so much better for you. Also a different price point, but not huge given the overall investment.
I'm sorry if I missed this somewhere, but did you consider swapping in the SB 15OB350s and possibly small reinforcement triangles?
And not wanting to be impolite, but could I ask how much your final set of passive XO parts cost?

Many thanks! You've now given me an idea... I used the SB FR during development, but not in the finished and "mature" design... I could give it a try. I didn't try the big SB woofer, it wasn't available for a long time and I lost sight of it. Costs... I would have to add them up, I really don't know... I'll do it soon.
I was originally thinking about the SB20FRPC30-8 for an inexpensive omni speaker experiment, pointing up into a dispersion cone from a sonotube/concrete form, managed my a miniDSP HD or similar. But it could be fun to try on the top of an inexpensive OB as well, so would be curious how well it stacks up in your mature system!
The 15OB350 has way more xmax, which you might be able to leverage by adding a bass boost circuit, e.g. this one. Noting immediately that I know less than zero about passive XO design. 😏 Or if you're feeling ambitious, an 18SW450. Lots of high efficiency Vd for the money.

Greets!
Surprised at how bloated 'one note' the bass sounds
compared what I'm use to:
....or even this more prominent bass line I've used forever since it came out:
