Thanks, so I should look for 0.5, as transient response is what I aim for with a mid woofer.

But you’re using it from 300Hz upwards, so what use is the Q for? That’s a bit above the resonant range…

yes, it should not matter much, I agree. Just wanted to make the mid box based on something meaningful.

Consider that a bigger enclosure has lower resonant modes itself: you don’t want these. It’s going to be harder to dampen these (bigger enclosure, more stuffing).

True, more damping to mass load the diaphragm and maybe tone it down a bit.

Van Damme starquad, highly recommended, the braiding is a breeze to remove.

Perhaps not the best choice for single ended switchcraft connector though!

You shouldn't do soldering in front of a computer screen, it disturbs the crystalline structure of the solder and change the directionality of the cable...

I'm also interested in the Faital pro driver. Any reason you have chosen a horn with such narrow dispersion?

The loudspeakers will be 6 meters from the couch, and no treatment possible, so I opted for narrower dispersion than the usual 80 degrees as to focus on where I will be listening.

Got some time to almost finalize one of the speaker, at least enough to start some measurements.

Gluing up the front baffle, I don't have big enough clamps, so I needed to get creative:

Here is some stuffing in progress, with recycled cotton & wool panels:

And some nearfield measurements of the bass woofer.

Red is without stuffing, and without the ports.

Green is with stuffing like above, bottom and top covered as well.

Blue is with some white pillow filling added at the bottom on top of the wool/cotton panel.

You will notice the huge dip at 150Hz is gone with the acoustic panels placed inside. The 35-45 swing is maybe port related. I don't know if I should keep the blue FR or the green one.
And if someone can explain the decrease between 60 and 100Hz as well? It's obviously related to the paneling.

Probably not much more I can do about the 580Hz peak and 1100Hz dip, as I built a rather square chamber. That was a dumb idea. The wool/cotton panels did wonder, as the sheep wool I "borrowed" from my wife, this stuff is incredible:

Your nearfield measurement doesn’t look very good. Something in the measurement setup?

Try burst decay plots on the midrange (near field). I won’t say I warned you 😉

Listening test is pretty good so far. One last sanding and then varnishing and it will be done!

Ow I missed that. Well, -10dB at 40Hz can’t be your target highpass goal, or is it? A moderate 6” design does a far better job.
