The biggest costs are the heatsinks, transformer, PSU caps and enclosure.
$130 for the FETs is rather on the high side. E-Bay have got 25 x IRFP244s for £18.00. You might need 50 of them for matching.

There is a Bulgarian guy on E-Bay selling matched pairs of IRF9610s for £6.00, buy three sets for £18.00.

I can't vouch for the matched IRF9610s but the IRFP244s are genuine.

that would be out of my budget
most of the cost was bigass chassis/heatsinks and PSU's🙂
i have 6x68.000uF pr monoblock. and 1000VA transfomer.

you might need 100 to get 4x6match. thats 72£. but dont heng up on that 130$ price from tech DIY. they'r not selling any more.
member H_A here sells transistor kits. very close match and good price.
There is a better copy of the schematic at Pass Labs ALEPH-2 DIY amplifier PCB
BTW the kk-pcb PCBs don't get very good press.

Yah, I have that too.
Proablem I have is the components are not labled as to what they are on the board.
What makes you say they don't get good press?
I've never used them myself.

Can it be done less then grand for close to 60 watts

I've never bought one. Z-Mod states that the copper tracks are very thin and the boards aren't finished very well.
It's very easy to make your own.
yes it can. but that will be aleph5.
you can also build aleph2 for less then a grand. if you get som bargins on parts.

The Aleph 4 is very similar, uses half the number of output devices and puts out 100W of pure Class A.
what is a bargin on that one? 54£ you get the same from antek for 55$ 😀
and 500VA is to smal. 2x30V is a little low 🙂

You also dont need an expensive case as most of the outside is heatsink.
A75 - PROJECT 1
It's straightforward to make an alluminium box with offcuts and bolt the nicely finished heatsinks onto it.
Have a look at http://www.passdiy.com for some really nice examples of what a bit of ingenuity can achieve.

An Aleph 4 will run perfectly happily on 2 x 500VA transformers.
Different countries will have different bargains - just keep searching, you will find cheaper.
thanks for reply..so give and take you are out 1500$ for this Class A amp...and hope the squueze is worth the juice...
IMHO..... The juice is worth it and then some.
Even @ Audiosan's 2500 you won't find as good a sound For
That amount. My home theater/music uses 3 stereo amps that I moded and there msrp are in the 2k range. And when sit down and listen for the cricket farts on a LP I use my aleph, cause it sounds 10 times better.
But that's me.
Don't take my coments before as a knock on the aleph.
It just dosent sound like a bryston or a classe. I like it better than both of those but that's my ears.
But don't expect it to sound like one of those. They use BJT and diffrent cir.
its cheeper to go for one 1000VA transformer in a aleph4. if your not building monoblocks. but thats not the cheep way to go anyway 🙂
I would plumb for 2 x transformers as you will get better separation than one.
If you are going to the Class A of Class A amps, why scrimp on the PSU.
In Class A the PSU is very important.
Mines not a monoblock but (is this right) a Dual Amp. It has a single chassis with two monoblocks inside it.

mine had been 600$ cheeper if i had lived in the US 🙂 it was 800$ in chipping for all parts 😀

Um, where does one get a recording of entomological flatulence?
😕 😕 😕
I'm also heavilly biassed towards my Aleph 4. Compared to my old Arcams it just sounds ALIVE.
The F5 also has its followers, BIMHO the Alephs are more forgiving when it comes to less sensitive speakers and more complex speaker loads.

a little bit. but not much. and if you have a tight budget, the best way is to not overkill the PSU too much. better to use good components than way bigger then you need. and spend some time finding a bargin on heatsinks.
then the cost is halfed already 🙂
