That is correct, and i had the variac to 100v
I have the antek 35v toroid / 1000va, they are huge... 😀
Wow, this is fun.. i need to tidy up the pieces before i can actually listen to it... im tempted to listen to it on the bench.... 😛
Best way to check is on the bench! Keeps you from having to take it all apart to trouble shoot.
You should test on a test set of speakers. One bad fet and rail voltage is on your speakers.
Break it in for a bit then wrap it up, get your beer and call your neighbors!
You will love the sound!
After a bit you can change the bias resistor to get more. And even better sound. What speakers is this going to land on?
That 221 ohm resistor at the source of the ccs irf has 5.76v drop... R5 on the board..
Good to go. I like it.
How about you karajak?
Now we know the 221 we are looking for from you is R5.
NRG, would you mind posting any new info on the diagram you have?
Might still need it for karajak.
That is if you can pull yourself out from infront of your speaker. 🙂»

Absolutely. I will post the schematic on Monday when I'm at work.
I looked over karajaks photo and all looks good, however i did have some trouble determining color bands.
Wow, this is fun i havent heard it play yet, i cant wait.

wow. havent heard it yet?
i rememeber when i got mine in that posision. i waitet 1 hour. then i went on to a test spesker for about 15min. then i desided it was good to go and hooked it up to my mainspeakers 🙂 it was a dream🙂 and better yet. when i got my F5 😀 :😀

I put a speaker on it... guess what: sound is coming out!! Can you believe it.
Very cool. I'm going to do some more drilling and tapping to make sure the 244s are secure.. im just not feeling much hear from the main sink, however the aluminium bar that is holding them down gets very warm..
Very nice to hear the sound coming out....

I will upload the schematic tomorrow, hopefully that will help.
A question on tapping screw holes. Could you provide feedback on a decent set? I found this set that looks interesting.

Thanks..

Schematic: cool thanks.
Tap set: I've never used one like that. My first thought is this type is proably for sheetmetal. But I have no other info to say that but my gut.maybe someone here knows better on those than I.
On tap and die sets: if you plan on more diy amps, I would sujest a good tap set. Greenley is a good brand. Do yourself a favor and don't cheap out on taps. I have a set that was my grandfathers. It was allot of $ in that day but 3 generations later....
If your not planing on allot more diy... Go to ace hardware and get the 2 or 3 you need.
Just my 2c some might say I over charge.
hi all,
My tube amp got blown away now looking to buy an amp then got this Aleph amp DIY..
may i ask some question being a newbie...
1: how much cost it takes to build this DIY amp with good quality components
2: how much time does it take
3: how difficult it is to build last time i soldered something was 13 years ago in engg days
4: how this compares to name brand like Classe, bryston etc...
sorry for newbie questions..

1. I don't know I did a diffrent aleph.
2. I took 3 months for aleph 1.2
3. Not hard. But be prepaired do some reading and you will be fine
4. Diffrent. But if you like tubes aleph is a good match 4 you.
Classe and bryston are good amps. But diff circuts. I like older classe amps but not as much as aleph. I like bryston too but for brute force.
What kinda speakers?
What tube amp died? Did you like it?

Thanks for replying...
the tube was Yaqin ms-34d ....i like Solid state amp sometime i cant even tell the difference...
btw how much was the cost...
i am currently running full range gerhsman acoustic speactor down the line i am planning to make DIY mini statements or DTQWT mkII ...not sure yet...
I can roughly answer the cost, it's not inexpensive. I did not track the cost closely (on purpose! ) and things such as tools, wire, solder, etc that I bought are not in this equation. I bought nice components, such as wirewound resistors, etc.
Rough estimates:
enclosure/heatsinks $300
components $225
Caps for power supply $100
boards (kk-pcb.com) $ 150
Torroid (Antek 35V - 1000VA) $215
Matched FET's (240/9610 from Tech-diy.com) $130
Lots of patience and persistence $priceless (I couldn't resist that tacky joke)
I hope that helps. It's a fun project to do. Your soldering skills won't be an issue, I never soldered before this project and know I even know how to de-solder as well.

thanks for reply..so give and take you are out 1500$ for this Class A amp...and hope the squueze is worth the juice...

There is a better copy of the schematic at http://www.kk-pcb.com/aleph-2.html
BTW the kk-pcb PCBs don't get very good press.
