My Dream Aleph 2 Coming True

The biggest costs are the heatsinks, transformer, PSU caps and enclosure.

$130 for the FETs is rather on the high side. E-Bay have got 25 x IRFP244s for £18.00. You might need 50 of them for matching.

There is a Bulgarian guy on E-Bay selling matched pairs of IRF9610s for £6.00, buy three sets for £18.00.

I can't vouch for the matched IRF9610s but the IRFP244s are genuine.

you might need 100 to get 4x6match. thats 72£. but dont heng up on that 130$ price from tech DIY. they'r not selling any more.
member H_A here sells transistor kits. very close match and good price.

thanks for reply..so give and take you are out 1500$ for this Class A amp...and hope the squueze is worth the juice...

IMHO..... The juice is worth it and then some.
Even @ Audiosan's 2500 you won't find as good a sound For
That amount. My home theater/music uses 3 stereo amps that I moded and there msrp are in the 2k range. And when sit down and listen for the cricket farts on a LP I use my aleph, cause it sounds 10 times better.
But that's me.
Don't take my coments before as a knock on the aleph.
It just dosent sound like a bryston or a classe. I like it better than both of those but that's my ears.
But don't expect it to sound like one of those. They use BJT and diffrent cir.

I would plumb for 2 x transformers as you will get better separation than one.

If you are going to the Class A of Class A amps, why scrimp on the PSU.

In Class A the PSU is very important.

Mines not a monoblock but (is this right) a Dual Amp. It has a single chassis with two monoblocks inside it.

mine had been 600$ cheeper if i had lived in the US 🙂 it was 800$ in chipping for all parts 😀

a little bit. but not much. and if you have a tight budget, the best way is to not overkill the PSU too much. better to use good components than way bigger then you need. and spend some time finding a bargin on heatsinks.
then the cost is halfed already 🙂
