Most amazing dumpster dive ever!!!!

Its not a great picture, it was taken for messy lab thread. Look under the table, the box right behind the 20kV cap says In Touch.
Damn, I though that was an old radiator at first!!! You better strap those leads or you will kill yourself if it ever builds up a charge. But what a find!!!

The table is a home made CNC machine, the spindles have been used for making whirlygigs for the most part. Picture with lots of 2 litre and popcan whirlygigs. They get suspended on a magnetic bearing and spin in the wind.

Safety first, a strap is a good idea. Though its been over a decade since that cap has had a charge on it. Oil caps arent as bad about that as electrolytics.

In the second round of cleanup, one of the labs in my building tossed some more obsolete junk, and I ended up with some more goodies, the gem of which was a 120VCT Bigassed transformer. I am not sure what the amperage rating is on it yet, but it is quite large. I'll post pics later, but I am hoping that with a regulator on it I can use it with some LM4072's I have in the mail. We'll see. . . . 😀

As promised, here are pics of the "new" transformer.

As for what the first round with all of the caps was, I think it was the primary power supply for a home-made electrospray ionization stage for a mass spectrometer. I'm not 100% sure about that, but knowing who was throwing it out, I have a pretty good guess.

Another for better scale. Does anybody nave a ballpark for what the amperage rating is? Unfortunately the markings are insanely ambiguous and cryptic. My guess is ~3-5 based on size (making it 500VA) but this is purely a guess. I am sure it will at least be able to power a couple of chips! 😀

Gotta confess to my own dumpster diving. Drove up to a bunch of dumpsters in shopping centers in my BMW looking for boxes to for the "outer" box in a few of my recent equipment sales on Ebay for double boxing items that are sold. Fryes, Best Buy, but best boxes are in the aisles at Home Depot. No dumpster required.

Dumpsters around you guys are apparently much better equipped!

Yep..dumpster diving is one of the few things in life that I am truly lucky with. Call me odd, but, it's a pretty good 'rush' when I find something really cool. The people that laugh at me are missing out!

congrats to all on thier wonderful finds🙂
