Finished Amp
Why don't you put up a couple of amps that you have finished? Oh they are not done yet. What a surprise. 400 circuit boards finished but no amps.

Hi Mike:
I wrote you offline a few days back asking about availability of PCB's, and got no answer back. Don't know therefore if mail was received; I was hoping you could tell me if you had PCB's available for this amp. Many thanks,
Chris

I guess I am not getting e-mails through the forum. I do not have any boards left. I have an extra amp, but it would cost $60-$70 to ship to Texas.😀

If you'd be willing to loan it out I'd like to give it a listen. Really and truly this time! My Chevy 2500 can cover the shipping.
Got yer email, thanks/

Mike, others:
I am willing and capable to get another group of these boards built if there is interest. Is there? I want to order a qty. of ten, and certainly I would like a few myself, but I don't want all ten. Is there anyone else here who wants a board? Please let me know, I'll get them quoted; I work in a PCB contract manufacturing house and am well connected to fabs in the area.

Request from Jam
This board was built using Jam's schematic. Please delete this thread. Thank you, Mike

Hi Mike,
Can we ask Jam to give back all the things he learned here?
How about everyone else's contribution from the forum? This stuff didn't pop out from a vacuum.
In all fairness, that request is completely unreasonable. All due respect to Jam.
This is just my personal feeling on the subject (and a strong one at that).

Thanks for your explanation. Jam has shared quite a bit of knowledge. I didn't think his noise would outweigh his contribution. It would be nice if someone would send him an e-mail and explain it.
Well, Since MIke graciously sent a MOSFET A-40 for the PASS Shootout I thought I'd JAM a question into this thread.....
How does one adjust X-1 potentiometer? Also wouldn't this be best replaced with a current source? I was told that resistors don't make good current sources.
Thanks!

I've pulled three OT posts and stuffed them into Texas, including one of mine.
MikeW,
This is not the thread to make those comments in. There is a Moderating thread. We had talked about these things off line.

Thanks for dropping by. It was nice to put a face with the posts. I hope you got that amp into the house OK. Let me know how you like it.
What amp? What face? What are you talking about?

I like it a lot. I like the bass. Tighter and more controlled than the 30 BUT the 30 has nicer mids IMHO. No replacement for SE it seems. There is no choice.. I must bi-amp🙂
I'm gonna build the Krell
(thank you very much) and compare midbass performance between the mos40 and the krell. Either way, just so you know, I'm certainly in for a couple mos40 boards if they come available.
Nice meeting you too...and thanks.

The more I listen to it, the more I like it.
Now what I need is a Mosfet A40 with the top end of a SE Aleph, Or an Aleph with the lower end of an A40. Either one. Get to work Mike 🙂

There is no comparison. The Krell has that magical midrange that no other amp I've heard has atained. Enjoy building yours!

Hi Mark,
I seem to remember reading you use Dynaudios - a.k.a. power vacuums. I've got to say that The A40 Mike let be borrow (I know he's built more than one) has very satisfying midbass With my '80s Infinity RS4b's. BUT...I'm really starting to not like that infinty dome mid, it sounds like a 'paper bag' the more I listen to it, and those poly woofers sound like they get heavier every day. I don't think the speakers are changing🙂 I need to stop gettin' sidetracked and work on my Tannoys.
Could it be that the A40 just doesn't do well with your Dyno's? I only ask because in my experience with D drivers is that they are fantastic with the right amp and not so fantastic with the wrong amp. All my experience with Dyn was years ago in high end auto systems though.
Regards,
Marc

Sorry but I have to diagree. Nothing beats a pass amp in the midrange. Especially with voices. The Krell has more bass and brighter highs but can't compare to the Pass labs designs.
I think after you tweak the A-40 a little you will see what I mean.
I may take a couple of weeks of listening.
