Has anyone used this tweeter? Seems a good budget waveguide offering.
Says can be used first order but at what crossover point?

It is used in some of the Seas A26 / Dynaco A25 versions and clones in stead of the Seas T35C002. May be worth a search for those on here. Also this guy has measured and used them in a number of designs, just search through his archive - https://ampslab.com/blog/2018/02/21/morel-cat-378/
There is also the Curt Campbell Slapshot that pairs this with Dayton RS180s in an MTM, there is a thread on here about this. https://rhythmaudiodesign.com/collections/speaker-kits/products/slapshot-mtm-speaker

I believe the Devore Orangutan is effectively a A26RE4 woofer and CAT378 in a large BR box (iirc around 70l is needed). I think Planet10 has done a similar box for the A26 driver and thee are documented on this site somewhere.
I'm guessing you have seen this ?

I've used it in some PA speakers I built and also in a two sealed design called Ergo IX bya guy named James from down under. https://pinkfishmedia.net/forum/thr...-e-ix-mini-monitor-loudspeaker-system.112821/ , It also uses a Scanspeak 15W8530-K01.
It sounded great in both applications. I really like these speakers a lot. As a rule, I have always liked Morel domes, have used a number of them over the years, and the CAT378 is no excepetion. One of the benefits that is easy to miss is that that the horn loading does not just act as a wave guide of sorts but sets the center of pressure back a bit from the baffle. That can help with good phase alignment between drivers if properly exploited by the crossover.

Thanks Ugg10, I'm in uk so shipping wd not work for me. Good deal for someone 🙂
Audiosteve those scans are great, use them in a sealed build X2 parallel.
Thinking to use the morels in a simple classic wide baffle with snell /heybrook Vifa 8" now made by scan

Hi Bill, I am looking for a good 8" I can used in a sealed box for my next project. What is the (now Scanspeak) model number of the Vifa driver you refer to? I;d like to have look. Thanks.
I used them in these, the tweeters are flush with the face of the grill, so they are meant to be listened to with the grills on and they are pretty well behaved, but I crossed them about 3K.

Looks good but but no US sources :-(
I've used it in Curt's Slapshots, it sounds great. No idea what the crossover point is, although I would guess that it's below 2,000 Hz but that's not much help to you. As noted above, Michael Chua's website has some projects which use the Morel, such as his "Raven-CAT", I think his write ups show the XO point.

The trouble with the MTM slapshot is it's a proprietary design.
You will save yourself a great deal of speculation by emailing Mike Chua for his Finch design:

A thing of beauty. About 2.5kHz crossover, First Order filters. Which is not the same as 6dB slopes. Wouldn't be hard to convert it to MTM either.
I am always amazed at the foolishness of most of the DeVore Orangutan clones at this forum. They miss the main trick.
I can say no more.

If you emailed RAD and asked nicely, they might tell you the XO point for the Slapshots; also depending where you live, they might share the design for a fee; maybe not but worth a try.
Mr Chua also designed the 'Raven CAT', a three way with the CAT378, RS180P and Dayton DA270 (?) woofer. I built his Lark and Lark SM (same drivers as Lark, different cabinet and XO) and really like their sound.

It is an ancient design descended from Dynaudio D28. Solid piece of a product by the datasheet. I know member wintermute has one for a long time in an mtm ( midwoofers are also Morel's) design + sub so he might give you more information.
What are the issues with the Orangutan clones, in your opinion? And what is the main trick? The trouble with the MTM slapshot is it's a proprietary design.

Lament, you need an LCR conjugate here. Impedance correction. Otherwise it doesn't really work.

You mean to flatten the impedance of the tweeter? I.E. Take out the resonant spike, the rising inductive load or both?Lament, you need an LCR conjugate here. Impedance correction. Otherwise it doesn't really work.
