Today we can do it !
They puted Mandrake soft, now with Ubuntu... the plane are better than ever !😀
My worst flight after ten lateness hours because bad meteo: Old Hong Kong airport (now closed... very rock 'n roll airport!) : take off during a hurricane in south Asia... the same, everybody were crying...with big lateral moves 😱
last Subbu revision : a super cap with : 0,00000002 m ohms ESR. Don't believe the picture, spacing between pads are only 2.5 mm and long enough for the others components below !

I see we have found the ultimate stresstest engineer for new projects. If it does not break at your place it won't break at all.
BTW do you know the old Istanbul Airport with the dome ceiling ? One of the last where smoking was allowed everywhere.

I believe i can fly.... I believe i can touch the sky
If it existed the first time i went to Istambul 20 years ago... yes! If not this one no ! But don't remember how it was...
BTW, Istambul is a very beautifull town with nice people...

Only place in the world where they ask me (dutchman) if I want to buy drugs 😉
Well if you could cut the smoke with a knife that was the one.

OUARF ouarf;;;; they have a special one called "Mignight Express" : you don't see the light for 20 years !
Finally finish my box and a new power supplice : very wide sound stage, i can virtually see 4 speakers...
Eldam,
Your pictures need captions. Normally I don't think of you as being short on words, but there is always an exception to the rule. Please tell us more about what you built - both the power supply and the various tweaks on the V3.
The box looks nice, but if you can afford that Cognac then you can afford a real box.

April Fools Day..... (In French I can be shorter, but it's very complicated to me to translate shortly what I want to write in your language, happily people are gentle and comprehensive here...)

Well the grand Champagne wood box was an old one but I can tell you than basic one here cost less than box at Mouser (aluminium : my understanding...)... idem with wine : good ones are very less expensive than the worst sold abroad most of the time... Life become difficult here, but we have the hapiness to eat and drink very well yet.
I have not good tools enough to work with aluminium but maybe holes for rca and BNC ! Maybe some big enough with hole for standard IEC powersupply hole already exist but if it cost 50$ it's a no go for me as I have to make choices... I'm tried to make a GB for buying an AMR DV-777 with a reduced cost for the next step after the Subbu (Is not a compliment ?)... nobody fill in the form !... think it's a complicated task and no sure a brand want to do it but the bigger one proceed like that with distributors and their purchasing directors : why not buy 100 devices at half or 25 % of the price - don't know about the cost reduction I'm not a professional of it- but I'm sure there is one at reading DIYaudio as it is a job in many companies !). Maybe a little naive am I, but I prefer to try than speak 1 year about a device I already have as some do. having a very good reference player is important to DIY and to choose the rest of the system... I really think you have to do it before choosing the speakers !
Well I got some problem to save money and I must... 😱: with Mouser at this time some parts are missing for my second Subbu (LDO regs) and I don't find a standalone LT1794 reg or a competitive kit elsewhere !). And I have no devices enough to buy to do 2 short list at 60 euros to save post fees at Mouser and Digikey. Individuals sellers are far expensive here ! My JG buffer is not populated yet as the parts are on this BOM...
And I am beginning to play with old multi bit dac chip I have...
S...t I am not short here !😀

Hi JP
Bad Bios revision, upgrade is required for planes too.
I hope you'll recover soon 😉
Look what I've got this morning, impressive packing for a tiny PCB.
No risk to be broken 🙂
Hi Korben,
What is it? What can it do for my subbu dac? Can you give part number so we can investigate? Resolution on my tablet is not good enough to see chip clearly. Thanks. Regards.

Thanks Gary,
I have been trying again with C22 and these caps on a similar important position in my SACD player (5V PS of digitals devices).... I confirm my first impressions : here it was a little test to try to understand the "sound" of these caps : 100 uf United Chemicon ASA won against the "better" ESR Nichicon 470 R8 !
And once more with the Subbu :
on my system at C18 : Nichicon R8 (red marked minus caps on aliminium can) is inferior (enough) in relation to the BOM United CHIMICON ASA serie (blue marked minus cap on aluimunium can). these little 25 ohms ESR is a good mix with SEPC. C18 with SEPC 100 uF was the worst. I think its a question of mix or ESR because the better solution was with the ASA 25 m ohms ESR !
C22 : again Pasonic SEPC won again Nichicon R8 . Note there are three different sort of SEPC, mine is the 8 ohms ESR 470 uF (same ESR the the Nichicon R8). But difference is fare less important than in C18 position !
Next version will be try with United Chimicon ASA 470 uF (on my next waiting BOM at mouser : 6 weeks to have LDO regs out of stocks !😱).
I had doubts after the serious test of Freeman fellow, but on my system : no doubt : not only flavor ! But next time my test will be done with improved BNC plugs on my SB Duet and a better linear PS on it : the one of the V3 for the Duet alone ! Yes ! And test of course with the SB and its genuine first PS I have already ! To be continued !

Why don't you try Farnell as they have Micrel on stock and shipping is not so expensive as they ship from UK ?

Eldam. I tried combinations of most of recommended tweaks but limited myself to nichicon and sepc polymer caps in the standard values. I didn't try the ASAs. You are the leader here. I hope eventually to try out your favorites.

Hi Atupi,
Is there not a minimal amount of order at Farnell to have free shipping ? It is around 20 dollars at Mouser or Digikey if order is < 60 dollars. I will read the FAQ in their site... For what I remember Farnell is more expensive than Mouser maybe both of the GB money and the specificities of these site !
I saw Korben has a GB but I need some specific (fanatic Version) items and the cost of the BOM to get 60 dollars or more !

I'm not sure to be the leader of anything, because it's just another curry and each system is different. For me it was just more than hot & spicy difference, the curry has a definitly better mix with the United Chemicon polymer ASA (first letters of the ref) of the genuine last BOM in C18 position.
that's why I will order a 470 uF ASA ref to try also with C22 and another bench of mix caps at C18 with it. Just two cents but got pleasure with that... I think each system has to be a little tuned to find the better balance.
What is your source ? Mine is just a simple SqueezeBox Duet with bad RCA plug for the moment... So the tests have their own limits. Next work I will improve the squeezebox to observe if there is a consitency in the tests !

Eldam PM me for your specific/fanatic needs.
I'll place a Mouser order soon.

I have marantz stock cdp and a shigaclone transport which is much superior. I haven't graduated to computer audio yet. Regards.
Maybe woerth to try Shiga in I2S mode with a CurryMan module (it seems close to the Subbu but the input which is I2S with this last) ?
I will supress soon all the non 75 ohms plugs between my spidf, but jitter will stay a little in relation to a short I2S ...

I have bee listening for two days the Subbu with new caps at C8 & C13 with good results.
Caps are Panasonic OSCON SEPF 22 uf at 35 m Oms. I had these on hands but didn't tried it before. I choose those because of the very low ESR in regards to the few UF.... which is rare because with value between 10 uF and around 20 uf ESR is more near 60 m ohms minimum.
this is at the price of a higher value for caps voltage : 35 V... most of the time, the less voltage value with polymer, the better for my experience. that's why I would prefer here a lesser value with voltage rate of the caps ! Notice i didn't try United Chemicon LF serie 100 uF : because BOM said 10 uf and the cap C2 behind which feed the two C8 & C13 are only 100 uf (220 uf with the GaryB tip).
Notice twice than these tests where not with the improvement of the true 75 ohms line i'm wating for the SB Duet (with a better supply for it as well).
share, cheers,

Hi,
I am very disapointed (LOL) : I just measure all my 390 uf Nichicon FP cap R8 serie bought at Mouser : they all measure around 41 uf !!!!
I have to write here as I gave some advices here after many tests with and without those caps at C22 position and I am an inteluctualy honest guy !
My device to measure caps is not bad : no problem with others caps from Panasonic like OSCON SEPC or SEPF : value is exactly the same as writed on the cans !
Did you have such surprise in your life of diyer with caps from great brands ?
At more than 2 euros the piece (I bought 6) : it's a bad surprise. It seems they printed 390 uF instead 39 uF ! So with the 390 uF i waiting for instead the 470 uF of SEPC Panasonic for C22... I really understand the difference of sound ! 😱

The capacitor you show in the picture has the correct label for a 39uf capacitor. 41uf is within the tolerance since it is only 5% high. The way the label works is that the value is (first 2 numbers x 10 raised to last number).
10 raised to power 0 = 1
10 raised to power 1 = 10
10 raised to power 2 = 100
etc.
So 39uf is labelled "390"; 390uf is labelled 391; 3900uf is labelled 392
It's possible that Mouser sent you the wrong parts but more likely they sent the right parts and you misread the value.
