Modified CBT24

I dont really wish to put them on the sides of the arrays due to the windows in my listening room 🙂

Oh, that makes sense. In that case, just stick them behind. You probably won't go very low with those so your enclosures won't be large. You could design them to compliment your curved CBTs. If you want lower and larger subs place them somewhere else because it won't matter.

A year of listening later I have finally begun doing some audio related projects again.

My goal is to get a pair of subs to complement the CBT24s, so first thing was to figure out how to connect everything.

So as step 1 I got myself a MiniDSP nanoDIGI 2x8 to serve as an active crossover (and for room correction). I also got an UMIK-1 so I don't need to tune blindly.

Oh boy what a difference some equalizing did. I was happy with the sound before, but after doing a first measurement and letting REW create a filter to flatten the response I am now floored!

Next up is ordering the subs (SB Acoustics SW26-some version).

Here is the frequency vs spl graph I measured for my first try using REW (1/6 smoothing applied).

Not yet I'm sorry to say, but I have finally started building them, sealed box, 43 liter internal volume. I need to make them more stable, I made a quick first box from what material I had on hand but it flexes way too much. But now that I have gotten a first iteration built I think I will make progress quite a bit quicker^^

I haven't even started my build but I was planning to put in that same bass driver, got a pair at a good price... My idea was to use the Peerless GBS series as used in my Suesskind audio Progress speaker in force cancelling configuration but then they suddenly discontinued it 🙁 I am extremely tempted to try the new Neotera sub, doesn't matter if it works or not, just need an excuse to buy pair or 40 of them, looks soooooo nice! I am an addict!!!!

Just use leftover wood and brace it. It helps a lot.

Now it doesn't rattle any more😀

I reinforced all walls with "epoxygranite" (80% sand, 20% epoxy), somewhere around 5-10 mm on each wall. I have been looking for an excuse to try it on a box for a while.

Did some quick measurements:

Left is just the CBT24 with no eq, right is CBT24 + sub (no eq), cutoff point for the filters at 140 Hz.

And this is the CBT24 + sub with some eq applied.

Need to build one more box and apply some veneer to the box to make it look nice, but quite happy with the result.

Hi .

Look at the measurements of my own CBT24 with 5 EQs ; all measurements gated ( thanks to these "floor friendly speakers" you can obtain long windows of anéchoïc measurements )

One trick is to have apply a high shelve with low Q 0,3 but with miniDSP you'll have to load biquads from REW .
