Good suggestion Christer. The main reason we don't often do that is that we are pressed for time.
Sure, I understand that and in many cases the post in question are sufficiently isolated that they can be removed without disturbing the flow of the thread. At other times it becomes very confusing.
At one occasion there was a lengthy discussion about something. I took the effort to do some googling and write something to clear up the issue. After posting that I found that all the posts of the discussion I was commenting on were moved to Texas, but my post was never moved, so it remained there, probably completely incomprehensible for anyone who hadn't followed the discussion. I had to write a post myself to explain the situation.
Recently I saw somebody post something, just to find out that shortly afterwards the post was gone again. That could be, and perhaps most likely was, the poster himself who changed his mind and deleted the post, but one cannot know under the current circumstances.
I think most of us understand the basic meaning of stupid so lets not argue about that.
I’m glad to see my own philosophy synchronized with the basic rules of the forum. That’s one of the reasons I like to take care of this place.
The word stupid is just a synonym for
If you feel someone is wrong please don't call them an ******** or a dipstick or "don't you know any $%$#@^&ing thing".

peranders said:Christer, how often gets a thread hard to follow when BS is deleted? Not often I would say.
Not everything that gets deleted or moved is BS, but considered inappropriate for other reasons. However, mostly when there is a problem it is because the posts contain some things that are deemed inappropriate but also contain other things that are relevant for the discussion. It is true that this probably does not happen very often and is not a big problem. Yet, I do beg the mods to at least try to judge when it might be ueful to the readers to post that something has been deleted/mover. Sometimes they do, of course, and I fully understand that time is a limiting factor.
As usual, please note that I am not complaining about the moderation or the moderators, just trrying to suggest an improvement in policy/routines.

Hi Christer,
Many times when a post is removed, but did hold something of merit, the original poster was asked to re-post with the offensive material removed. We will not edit a post unless there is a word that got by the parser, or to remove personal information. The only other time a post may be edited is to remove content from an email. These are all against the posted guidelines.
The only time you may quote from a personal email is with the other parties permission.
When many posts are deleted, ones that are no longer in context are removed as well. Including my gems 😉 on many occasions.
We do our best, and also our best to respect other members when we have to perform our duties. Keep in mind that we are also members and want to enjoy this site as well. That is, after all, the reason we are here in the first place.
-Chris 🙂

If you don't the brains of a goldfish or a clue about what you are pontificating on, you have no business coming up with ideas. If you do, not having bothered to understand the subject at hand, you should not be too surprised to find yourself pilloried by those who do understand the subject.
This argument doesn't work for me. I disagree. There is no need to "punish" someone who is wrong. (Notice I didn't say something like: "any idiot can see that your point is stupid". Would that have been appropriate? I think not)
Some people posting don't really know what they are talking about, but they sometimes might come up with an idea that works for them, or can be educated to see errors; in their theories and in their posting style. Especially newbies, that may be easily intimidated.
There certainly are know-it-alls around that pontificate about how others don't know what they are talking about, and they can be annoying, but I have found that given proof of their errors they generally accept it. Of course it is a lot harder for them to accept it if the message correcting them has an attack built in - then we get a flame fest going. If you correct someone and they are too dense to see your point, then: Just Walk Away. You don't have to "win" a discussion.Future readers will see your post as a warning not to necessarily believe what the ignorant guy said. I have also been in the position of being wrong on subjects I was sure I knew well. People make mistakes, no biggie. Some people seem to feel the need to scream at a "bad driver" and are unaware of their own driving mistakes. We don't like screamers here.
One of the positive things many people comment on is that the atmosphere here is much more civilized than other forae. I don't see that we lose valuable content by observing some decorum.
"punishing" people or "pillorying" them is a good way to get a trip to the sinbin.
Any forum where the mods know words like "forae" has got to be a cut a above... I believe he spelled it correctly as well!

Hey, You're a pretty amusing fellow 😀
I forgot the final crime: If you are being funny, make sure that you are actually funny. Nothing sadder that some guy who thinks he's a funny fellow and is just a jerk.
There have been studies done that some people without a sense of humor think they are funny as hell - because they have no clue as to what funny is actually is.

Humour is a strange thing. I have a friend who largely has the same type of humour as me and we always have a lot of fun together. However, he has one favourite joke he read in Punch maybe 40 years ago and nobody he has ever told it tounderstands why it is funny. The only exception was one of his former collegues who otherwise had no sense of humour whatsoever.
In the meantime...
United States Patent 6055910
A toy gas-fired missile and launcher assembly whose missile is composed of a soft head and a tail extending therefrom formed by a piston. The piston is telescoped into the barrel of a launcher having a closed end on which is mounted an electrically-activated ignitor, the air space between the end of the piston and the closed end of the barrel defining a combustion chamber. Joined to the barrel and communicating with the chamber therein is a gas intake tube having a normally-closed inlet valve. To operate the assembly, the operator places the inlet tube with its valve open adjacent his anal region from which a colonic gas is discharged. The piston is then withdrawn to a degree producing a negative pressure to inhale the gas into the combustion chamber to intermix with the air therein to create a combustible mixture. The ignitor is then activated to explode the mixture in the chamber and fire the missile into space.
A green potato launcher, WOOT!!
If this were done on a large scale, governments could easily run their space programs...

poobah said:uh... Christer... could we have the joke? Please?
OK Poobah, since it is you asking. 🙂
The problem is I have only heard it in swedish, and I am afraid I would lose important subtle details if trying to translate it. But OK, I'll give it a try.
A new and young priest was invited to the bishop for dinner and of course wanted to give a very good impression. The housemaid starts serving eggs before the main course, and the bishop suddenly gets worried, saying to the young priest: "Oh, I am terribly sorry, I think you have got a bad egg". The priest responds: "Oh no, not at all, partially it was absolutely excellent".
I am sure my friend would get overjoyed if even only one of you finds it funny. 🙂
BTW, since it was in Punch, there must be an english original version around.
classd4sure said:Maybe you left out the part where the priest already ate half the egg?
Don't know. Have you heard it before? But yes, he must obviously have started eating it before the bishops comment.
