I applaud Dave for sinbinning Frank. For once moderation is used correctly.

I can't speak for him, but IMO, Frank only stated what he thought. Many people think that way (outside the great US of A). What's the big problem? I'm sure most Americans are big enough to shrug it off; but there are presumably a minority who are insecure.
There have been some pretty strong things said about Europeans on the forum, some true, some not; many insulting. I don't believe there have been any bans as a result. But maybe that's because we whinge less.

I think that Pinkmouses’s closing of the "Whats so wrong with American culture" thread was a good thing. An example of good moderating, as it keeps us kids from causing any more harm to each other.
I know I for one do have a lot more to say on the issue, and I would like to say that (I think) it comes from a more humanist than nationalist perspective... but I think that the few comments I made here and there were just fanning the fires...
Perhaps after some reasonable cooling off period we can or should reopen the subject. There were some interesting things being said there, but it did take a fair amount of filtering to depersonalize them.
I also know that personally, my intense interest in the subject has kept from thinking about any audio issues at all.
Well now that’s interesting. I thought the Nuvister was a forgotten footnote in history. Looking forward to reading about it.

I'm for moderation, and for a fairly strict set of guidelines. I love free speach. Say what you want, but find an appropriate forum for it. The goal of this forum, and with it being under DIYaudio should be fairly obvious, should be first and foremost audio. Anything that goes on under the forum that compromises the quality of the forum should be limited. If it is true (although I've not been on the forum long enough to observe it I certainly believe it) that several people of a great degree of audio knowledge have left the forum because of the unrelated backbiting and bickering, then that degrades the forum more than the moderation of individual's responses.
I don't care if Heinrich Himmler and Pol Pot are debating the latest audio design of Henry Kissinger. If there is something to be gained by their insights concerning audio, I want to know about it. What someone thinks of their politics is no concern to me within the confines of this forum, although that cannot be said outside of the forum, where my opinions might run high. If you want to express yourself about one of these three personally, do it where it will not adversely affect the forum.
When I log onto this forum, I could care less what anyone else thinks about Hitler, Bush, Jesus, Mohammed, Macdonalds, etc. The Jesus lover and Hitler sympathizer should not be battered for their personal and completely audio-unrelated beliefs, and if someone else feels the strong urge to attack/belittle them, they should refrain. If they cannot do so, they should be moderated.
Those who are willing to leave the forum have less to gain from the forum as they are most likely those who know more concerning audio than those of us who are willing to stick it out through all of the mudslinging for the little bit if information that will help us out. It is these who will leave that we can least afford to lose.

I just refered to your post and I know of you quarelling with Frank in the past hence my remark. I am not interested a bit in your personality but I guess you have an urge to tell me. Go on if you want to.
But in case you did not understand: it is not done to **** off someone that is not able to defend himself. It's like a kid that sticks out his tongue to a friend that is not allowed to leave the house because they had a fight together.
