Moderating

Jan,

With all the stuff going on recently, I'm beginning to think we might be best served if we got off our moral high ground, just jumped on the same train and went along with everybody else. Arrogance, disrespect and stealing seem to be the order of the day. We've been just slow to catch on. Plus you know, as well as I do, that there are a number of people who think us SPECIAL (unlike moderators here) and who'd be overjoyed if we were to cross over to the "dark side". Let's just go full Orwell! :devilr: :devilr: :devilr:

Pinkmouse,

It'd be wise to set one's own house in order before moving on. If you'll take my word for it (if not, check out my forum history), I (and Jan for that matter) am not a kind of guy over whom you should be demonstrating your moderating powers the way you have been doing recently.

Regards,
Milan

Oh, you're special, are you?

Guys, we didn't create this problem, another forum did. As I asked Jan, what do you expect us to do about it, this is the internet. If the entire motion picture and music industry can't stop copying, how can we?

You are totally (and perhaps deliberately?) missing the point. I'm not saying I'm special. I'm saying that I'm not a troublemaker, that I don't have a history of abusing people and that, all in all, I have been a helpful member of this community since 2002. I am saying that you should check out my history if you don't believe me. I'm saying you should not put into people's mouth just about anything that crosses your mind. I'm saying you should be a moderator and not anyone's watchdog.

Regards,
Milan

Milan, I'm not anyone's watchdog. All I've ever done is delete off topic or abusive posts. Check my history if you don't believe me.

This whole debate is over something that you nor I have any control over. Mark made it clear a long while ago that any debates over what is posted on another forum would better be posted there. We have no control over the rest of the internet. Why are we arguing?

Methinks an open and candid disclosure of the "problem" with "another forum", citing specifics, may help in improving the trust of the forum members in the moderators.

IMO the explanations offered so far are vague and imperious, and do not inspire confidence in the judgement or the actions applied.

Without such a disclosure I expect that these discussions will drag on until the parties involved tire of them, and that forum members will avoid open discussion of forum management.

Milan. Are you angry at us, or is it really at the behaviour of certain people no longer members here?

You have to admit, the Blowtorch IP thread no longer had anything to do with audio diy anymore. Whilst I appreciate your feelings,(and Jans's too), there really is nothing we can do about stuff that isn't posted on this forum, and you have to admit, discussing it here isn't at all productive. Yes, you can let off steam, but it doesn't actually solve anything. Please take a bit of time to consider our, (the mods), options and if you can think of anything we could have done better, then feel free to mail me with constructive suggestions.

May I ask something directly? There have been rumblings about "stolen" content. Is such posted anywhere here? If so, where?

I do not think it was about stolen content. Jan pointed at the fact that 2-party discussion was restricted to 1-party comments (that were published) and that these comments were, of course, initiated by 2-party discussion.

Regarding me, I experienced it here:

http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=488884#post488884

DD used only sentences of 1 party, that were invented /initiated/ by the 2nd one.

I do not care, but I understand Jan completely.

Hi guys:

I'm not angry with anyone, just very, very disappointed. On the one hand, it disappoints me to see my posts deleted for no good reason and with such an uncalled for display of sarcasm (disrespect? both?) coming from Variac. Let's say a post of mine was offtopic on the grounds that it had nothing to do with audio diy and therefore had to be deleted. But then why didn't you delete all other posts like mine (including John Curl's, lumanaw's etc. etc.)?

On the other hand, I understand you can't do anything about other forums, even if they took stuff originally written on Diyaudio and simply moved it to their place. But, in the middle of all that was John Curl (member of both forums), who thought the other forum did a great job by copy-pasting the stuff from here and moving it "there". When people who felt wronged (Jan) faced him here, you shushed them and, I'm sorry to say, protected John Curl with all you've got. Plus none of JC's posts ever get deleted (and he's no saint), no matter how offtopic, disrespectful or whatever they are. That ain't right or fair.

Milan

Milan,
I appreciate your concerns and for not being cold-blooded about this place.
(Something’s wrong with the structure of this sentence but you get the point)
As often seen and said, it’s very easy to misinterpret words and ideas with this limited medium of text and smilies only.
Perhaps we all need some rest, tomorrow’s another day. 🙂

We differ. I know nothing about football were it not that I sell a few more TV sets than normal. 😉
Isn't this a wonderful place after all? We go to sleep and wake up with the luxury to be able to interact with everyone here when we wake up.
See you all tomorrow.

What is happening to this excellent forum? 🙁

Having been away from the forum for a couple of months, I find, to my great surprise, that a number of frequent posters, most of which I also consider to provide very valuable contributions to the forum, seem to have left, or so I thought. I assumed they had gor tired of the forum for one reason or another. However, I learnt today by email from one of these previous members that he and a number of other people had been banned from the forum for reasons, that at least he had difficulties to understand. Unless all of these people have recently started to behave in ways I would not recognize as therir usual style, I am equally puzzled about what the reasons for these bannings could be.

Up till this event, I think I could count the number of previously banned members on the fingers on one hand., so this new policy worries me, and I am afraid this great forum has suddenly started to turn into something I no longer recognize. I have no list of which members were actually banned, and only know a few of these names. However, in my opinion none of these has made any considerably harm to the forum and have definitely contributed much more useful information than the average member. Furthermore, if the mods are suddenly trying to clean up the house, I could consider a number of people who are not banned, but in my opinion do much more harm to the forum without really contributing much. Why are these not banned. I really hope this is not some unfortunate arbitrariness and not some mods having private personal issues with some members. Also please note, that although I said there were other members I would personally find much more sensible to ban, I do not want these members banned either, however annoying they can be.

One potential reason for banning I could understan is if they have repeatedly used the wrong forum to promote their own commercial products. However, i know for sure that at least some of these member are ones that were very strongly opposed to such behaviour.

As a member who has been on the forum for a couple of years now, enjjoying it and learning a lot from it, I find these recent event very sad. I actually do think the moderators owe us other members an explanation of these events (not asking for details about the banning of any certain individual, of course).

(I don't like to complain about the moderators. They usually do a good and hard work without any compensation, but in this case I do think they have to explan themselves.)

Christer,

Maybe you have a favorite bar/pub/ watering hole/ drinking place.

I know nothing, but maybe these guys "went away" because they would break the chairs and scare the other customers.

Kwak clocked...

Carlos snubbed...

Some people from eastern Europe are always angry... the Pavels are nice.

Where is the loss?

😕

If you mean a waterhole for audio, this forum is still my favourite and so far the only one I have bothered to register on. But that is also why I am concerned about this issue, since I want it to continue being the good forum it has been in the past.

Ah, but according to my banned source, whom I trust, they didn't go away, but were all banned without any advance warning and with no notification of being banned or why they were banned. They simply don't know why they were banned. Sure some of them could be a bit arrogant and annoying sometimes, but many of them made up for that by important contributions. Most of you know that I and some others had frequent heated clashes with Fred D., who finally left the forum by his own choice a year or so ago. Still, I never wanted him to leave or being banned, since he did after all also contribute a lot of useful things, however annoying I could find him sometimes.

Yes, the Pavels (PMA and Upupa) are two of my favourite contributors to the forum, for reasons I think I have already explained in earlier threads, but nobody seemed to understand or care about.

I am not saying that all the banned people are a loss, but I don't have a list of which ones were banned, and unless there were very strong reasons for banning them, I still find it sad even with those that might not be a loss to the forum.

😕 about your 😕 ion 🙂
