Great job, those should be fun!
You've already seen my DCR thread linked to earlier here. I really like my enclosures and the W4-1320SIF. I don't need BSC with their backs to the wall on my desktop. The bass is indeed very good for tiny drivers. Your addition of a 45° rear tweeter is a good idea. I find the W4-1320 to be quite beamy in its top-range, so this will help you add some ambient "air".

Tnx man!

Yes, i've seen/read your thread, nice build!

That's exactly the idea behind it.
I must admit that after the first listening test (just the driver without enclosure) I was pleasently surprised by the warmth of the highs without suppressing the details. The beaming is the problem here, so that ambient tweeter should be just what the doctor ordered.

Since W4-1320 does hit 20kHz on-axis, IMO, it'll be a matter of "ghosting-in" that tweeter so it does not interfere with the good quality HF already present.
Here's an updated measurement for my driver/enclosure, with calibrated Dayton UMM-6, placed about a foot away from the speaker, in its wall/desktop position IIRC:
An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Exactly, on-axis you should not be able to hear a difference with/without ambient tweeter, but, lets say 20degrees off-axis the ambient tweeter should start to kick-in.

That looks very good!
I've also seen measurements in two german magazines, the decay graph was also excellent.

That's a great response curve IG. It was your DCR that gave me the inspiration to do one with the TC9FD. I really enjoy the bass that I get on mine - actually listening to it now and when placed near the back wall where my desk is an in a small office, the bass gain is very large. More people should try DCR's - not hard to build at all. I use the same UMM-6 mic works very well. Try REW software of you haven't already - makes nice plots and lets you see more than 3 curves at a time compared to Holmimpulse.
Here is the response on my DCR (I needed a BSC though):

I wonder if adding a small rear facing piezo tweeter may be worth a try?
The TC9FD does seem to hit 20kHz. Do you feel you lose some HF when moving your head about from your desk's main sitting position? I would personally not bother if not.
I can't seem to notice a big effect but then, I can't hear above 16 kHz anyway... 🙂
I can do ~17kHz myself, but the HF loss is apparent on W4-1320SIF when moving about a bit. I don't remember measuring off-axis on this one, it'd tell the story. Can't say it bothers me too much as I usually sit close enough to the sweet-spot and am typically not there for so-called "critical listening" anyway. 🙂

Here are some very rough polars that I took with the TC9FD in the DCR:

The data shows that there really is not much missing if you are within 15 deg and maybe -5 to -7 dB at 30 deg for the highs.

Altough it seems that it has enough HF on axis, the reality is something else. I have no specialy demands of HF on Fullrangers, but for my not to picky ears this 4" bamboo needs rear firing supertweeter ambience enhancer, the 3" bamboo is completely different song, it has way more HF and is well balanced, but the 4" version is not, it lacks that bit of HF to be fully enjoyable 🙂

That's why I install this small 16mm dome tweeter at the back of the enclosure, it project under a 45degree angle which will solve the problem with the off-axis high frequency drop.
I also own the 3"Bamboo, they are now running in my livingroom. They sound really smooth and are very nice with vocals and small jazz recordings.
Try this new one
TangBand W5-2106 Breitband Lautsprecher - Lautsprechershop von blue planet acoustic
I haven't tried them yet, but I have W5 Polypropilene cone
Breitbandlautsprecher 13 cm - Lautsprechershop von blue planet acoustic
it's an outstanding unit, in what it can, has almost no competition. The papercone should be even better in HF according to owner of Blueplanet Acoustic who let TB made it for him.
If it's better than polycone then it's, without a doubt, alltime bestbuy true FR unit.
About the rear firing supertweeter ambience enhancer 😀
Boenicke has also recognised it's benefits

That's a nice one! It really looks like the W5-1611sa which I've used in a system I build for friends of mine.
Yes, it should be the same unit but with papercone 🙂
They're also cheap, only 56euro's 😎
I'll definitely going to check these out.
I've read that Nick Baur(Blue Planet - Oaudio) asked tangband to create this FR driver, they used Klippel to get the most out of this driver, nice!

Looks a nice unit of its type. Vas on the datasheet appears to be slightly out, if the other data is correct (or visa versa, so presumably they've averaged each from a batch, as is often done). Nothing especially significant though & within typical tolerance anyway. The poly cone model is pleasant, so it will be interesting to see how this one does.
That new TB 5" should be almost the perfect FR, the only thing about it is that he beams like crazy. But hey, switchable rear supertweet can compensate that.
I'll take your word for it re 'perfect' since what is perfect for one person / situation is not automatically so for everybody else, and I have seen nothing thus far to suggest it's more than what looks to be a promising new 5in widebander. It may re-write the laws of physics and be the one true panacea, but I have my doubts on that score. 😉
With perfect I meant, of course, full spectrum that this unit can reproduce with attitude (and exceptional vocal reproduction etc. you name it). And I think you know that. Aaaaaand I'm sorry that it's labeled as TB 😉
Try it, and take a listen. If you don't like it, I will buy it from you. 😉
Hype if true is ok, bashing if it's a lie is not. The consequences come sooner or later, as we whitness these days.
I hope you and the crew have learned something. If not, no problem, patience is here 😀 But hey, the sooner you get it, the better.

because you have disabled private messaging, and I can't send you one, I have to say it here, I'm sorry that I had to tell you that in this kind of peaking frenzy frequency graph manner, but I had to do it, I hope you understand me, I have nothing against you folks but I need the truth like we all need it.
