Dumber Is Better (DIB), LMAO it worked
I am not telling you what dumb idea I tried out on the 5.6 cabinet until I also try it with a port, but it seems to have worked.
The response between 80Hz and 120Hz seems better
EDIT: It is only subtle really, but I am hoping once I add the port it will be more significant

Here is the standard sealed 5.6 cabinet for comparison

I haven't tuned anything yet, but when I get my hands on some pipe I will be sure to try that out
Yeah. I need to actually listen to it to see what sounds better.
Not sure what to expect

I'm not sure you'd hear a little smoother under 300hz.
Sort of like hearing transients on drums when you remove the tweeter on a 3-way, it sounds like mud.

Today I purchased polyester batting, earthwool (glass fibre), and I have sheeps wool insulation on order, just to satisfy my curiosity. I think I will move all of these tests into the other thread as it doesn't really belong here.
I was also playing with speakers these days. Since I am busy and lazy to rewrite everything now, here's what I wrote in another thread.

Summary:
I like Open baffles.
I like the Slot Load.
I don't like the side wings.
I don't like sealed boxes.
I used the slot as seen on the pics (Eminence Beta 15) + bass boost as on NP's SLOB. I like that bass boost 🙂
I would like to try two Eminence Beta 15's slot loaded, like in Nelson Pass's SLOB's, but smaller and narrower baffles, like mine (50x120cm). Or two Betas one on top of the other, slot loaded...

I was just wandering what the wings do to the sound and performance of the OB bass. Cuibono did a nice little OB unit with small wings and I couldnt help but think this had to add something to the sound. What exactly happens when adding symmetrical wings on the front and back. Also, it the SLOB a form of ripole or is the fact that the cones are separated by a divider change this?
Oh yeah baby. Eminence have finally worked out how to make smooth responding woofers.
They look bloody perfect
Great find buzz

Just a few observations
The wings at 45 degrees (aka PHY baffle) give you a very nice smooth response.
Do not place the FR driver to close to the top of the baffle. Extend the baffle up higher.
Don't build the baffle too large if you have a small room

Yes, Nelsons Bass boost is very nice.
Multiple woofers kick butt when it comes to dynamics. This is very important to produce realistic bass and drum sounds
After this experience with Open baffle I will probably never build another cabinet again.
I still need to build the Onken cabinet but I suspect that will be my last.

.
Wings at 45 degrees work quite well
Also consider trying triangular wings (not rectangular) or even better asymetric triangles ie different on each side of the baffle. Just an idea if you like experimenting.
Wings at 45 degrees (aka PHY) do work quite well, you can also adjust them to any angle you like
