My collection is several 100 of magazines
.. all 'stored' in big piles here in my room.
Some are read so many times, that they have fallen into pieces ...

This MAT02 MAT03 pre amplifier is one of my absolute Elektor favourites.
Of all times!
There is also some other versions of same circuit concept, in Elektor,
used for Class A HeadPhones discrete amplifier.

- Excellent matched input pairs. Expensive transistors? YEEEES!
- Full Class A output stage. Does Op-Amps have this? NO!
.... 98% of them OP have a Current idle supply TOTALLY of <10mA
.... This amplifier has got 40mA idle, only in output stage
.... Which means it will put out close to 80mA in True Class A

So? Right, I was wrong all the way ... in your book
You read posts and opinions of me, with dark coloured eye, it seems.
We have a saying in my country: Look at me with you good and friendly eye, please.
As people can be both good and bad .. no one is 100% of any, This is a way to tell that our attitude towards others can be positive or negative. We have two (2) symbolic eyes .. one good and one bad eye.
And this is a choice we HAVE ... to BE Positive or to BE Negative. As long as you automatically lets your mode select you often end up to be EGOistic and Negative to others.
A way to counter this tendens, is to Actively make a positive choice: Treat others like you want to treated and looked upon.
It is also said: you SHALL love your fellow man. It is a command .. TO LOVE.
If we were not responsable for love and hate, means we can not make a choice.
But as humans.. we have a will and can make decision TO LOVE or NOT TO LOVE and TO HATE and NOT TO HATE and Despice some body.
This is why we are the ones that also are to blame for all hate and killings. And also those that are, hopefully, the ones creating love by saw a seed, that can become a Rose in the end.

well, you asked - I answered If you are not satified with my opinion maybe you can tell us all what is bad with this amplifier Surely I have seen many preamplifer I like less and which most probably would not match the performance of this on.

My QRV-01 headphone amp looks similar. The Elektor design is OK according to me, with pretty high performance if the power supply is good.
The offset will probably be no problem with since the SSM2210/MAT02 // SSM2220/MAT03 has rather low offset and on top of the that you have bias current compensation (T12).
BTW: I have SSM2210/20 for sale. 🙂

I wanted to say that elektor likes to put stickers "HI END" on everything and I`m curious what makes this design to be HiEnd?
Complementary, high price transistors, output in class A... that are not arguments for HiEnd.

I have just built a headwize kumiza III headphone amplifier and was thinking this design is similar for a matching phono amp.
Did many people make the design with the servo, i have a few BC560/550 of the head amp and it uses a servo like the head amp so hopefully will be of similar SQ.
