Good morning everyone š. I know Mark Audio Drivers have been talked about their measurements and debated on this forum and other forums as well about this subject. I did have a few questions that I need clearing up before I buy a set for a project? So here goes? (Pardon my repeated questions if they have ready been asked?).
1. The new Magnetic Arc Oxidized or (MAOP-5 Driverās). Do they Really sound that much better next to the Alpair 5 Gen. 3 drivers? Or the 7MS drivers? IāVe read itās a very expensive process to make the cones? What do they sound like? And are they worth the money? š¬.
2. So I see that some of the design for the lower end Mark Audio drivers are following suite to the more expensive drivers. Like a dimple in the middle of the dust cap? Or two round circle lines in the middle of the Pluvia drivers? Does this really make a difference in sound? Or the Dispersion of the distortion coming off the drivers dust cap? (If I wrote this right and am understanding it right?). I would enjoy seeing the before and after measuring of these two dust caps against regular Mark Audio Dust caps?
3. Last question? Or questions? When you up the line with Mark Audio are the metals better that he is using for the cones? I know they upgrade somethingās and the shallow profile of the cones curved shape.
I will say that I have never heard a metal driver sound more towards the warmer side like the Mark Audios I heard. ( So use to the Fostex sound). So I do give Mark and his team credit for always trying to meet the challenges of the past full range driver issues and addressing them. Thanks for your help. Jeff

1/ i look forward to hearing MAOP 5.3.
I have only heard a MAOP 7. MAOPs are decidely top of the heap, and worth the extra tariff. A7.3eN gets really close but those are diy now.
MAOP 5.3 would be the first MAOP with monoSuspension and, in theory, should be the most accurate midTweeter MA makes. Only downside is the small come might lack the dynamics you might want. That same small size also means it is much easier to control the HF chaotic/TL mode of operation.
2/ dimple on the dustcap seems to help deal with ringing in the dustcap.
????
3/ i cannot say for sure, i would suspect the metal is the same, but the refinement of the cone is not.
Before MA (gen , gen 1 not) i had the typical generalization towards metal cones. These (most of them) have shown that it is not inevitable.

Good Evening Dave. Sorry for the late reply. I was trying to remember what Mark Audio Drivers had the 2 rings around the outer dimple in the center of the dust cap? Now the news ones donāt? I did have set of the Mark Audio drivers like this but, sold them a long time ago. I will have to look for a picture of what of talking about? Sorry if it did make sense? Jeff

Dave Iām probably wrong and got something I thought mixed up.š¬. If anyone would know it would be you. Thanks for your help. Jeff
In post #2 @planet10 mentions the MAOP 5.3... but I have not been able to find documented information for any Mark Audio driver that combines both Mono Suspension (spiderless) technology and a MAOP diaphragm.
Does such a driver exist (regardless of diameter), or is it (said to be) in development?

MAOP 5 would be both. There were no Alpair 5 that werenā mono-suspension. Ia assuming that the MAOP is based on the Alpsir 5.3.
But i guesss it could be a mutant. @Scottmoose?

MAOP 5, the new MAOP 11MS (or whatever they're calling it when it launches).
Thank you @planet10 , @Scottmoose
I visited Mark Audio's MAOP 5 webpage https://www.markaudio.com/online_shop/5-cm/maop-5-2/, but didn't see any mention of mono suspension or spiderless construction.
Guess I have to take your word for it! š
In the meantime a pair of Alpair 7 MS should arrive in the next few days; the plan is to design a streamlined cabinet along the lines of Denso Ten's TD508 / TD510.
cheers, jonathan

The only new drivers from Mark Audio are the
MA200-M Multi Midnight Copper.
They are so beautiful looking and the biggest driver Mark Audio makes and is a true 8ā inch full range. I checked and Madisound has no mention or news on their web site. I will e mail Adam or berry? I Will give an update when I get oneš. JeffAttachments
Sorry I have been away for a while and should have said new to me. Scottmoose if anyone knows whatās new or not your the guy. šš
My wife said the color on the Mark Audio MA-200 Multi miād night copper is beautiful and is a high wife acceptance driver. Awesome Job. š„°

I have been out of the loop this year dealing with a few issues but, not from buy from Dave at planet 10. Super down to earth guy. š
If you were making a WAW would you choose the MAOP 5.3 or the MAOP 7?MAOP 5.3 would be the first MAOP with monoSuspension and, in theory, should be the most accurate midTweeter MA makes. Only downside is the small come might lack the dynamics you might want.
Dave/Scott, I know you've made a set with the 7s, but if you were designing from scratch now?
How low would you go with the 5.3?The MAOP 5.3 would certaninky make for a very good midTweeter.
By the rings, I think you might be referring to enabled drivers, which is a mod people do to their own. This is what Dave is referring to when he says "eN" at the end of a driver name, such as 7.3eN.
If you look at post #12 on here you'll see the rings

My next speaker project is embryonic at this stage but I'm starting to think about what I'd like to try. It will certainly be a pair of active multi-way floor standers for hifi stereo music; as a rough indication, around 85dB with 15dB peaks at a couple of meters would likely suffice. As part of it, I would particularly like to include a small upper-midrange driver (say about 3") from roughly 800hz upwards.
Some years back I'd unquestionably have crossed that to a tweeter. However.. I'm now old enough to not hear beyond about 12khz (and likely that will drop more over time). I don't...

How low would you go with the 5.3?
Depeds on how loud youād like to be able to play. Iād start with 300-350Hz.

Markaudio recommends 2 L sealed for MAOP-5, F3 about 180 Hz.
MAOP-5 is problematic because it is rated 5 W but it is 4 Ohms, so it is not suitable for most solid state amps. However, it is perfect for a low power tube amp like a 300B SET or SE pentode with 3 - 8 W output power.
I bought a pair, they are currently breaking in, but projected to surpass MAOP-7 in clarity and detail. The best mid-hi driver I've ever heard.
