I'll just wait and se what happens, when my AD8620 goes in - come on mailman !!
I havn't had any problems either, thus LT1361 IS pretty fast.

gy21,
Tried it too in my CD67, no problem at all.
AD8620 is much, much nicer though...😀

I ordered an ad8620 too 🙂
Hello everybody,
I'm interested in your opinions.
Let me start with a little introduction: last week I installed a socket for the dual opamps, replacing the default opamps by either LM6172 or by the AD 827. And had loads of fun switching the opamps and listening to music. My gear consists of:
* Audio Analogue Puccini integrated amp
* Marantz CD-63 SE (tweaked with a mix of Ray's mod's with some overkill capacitors) though the only regulator I've installed is for the DAC (DVdd)
* interlinks: Xindak AC-02
* speakercable: Xindak FS-02
* DIY speakers based on the Dynaudio Nuance (with the esotar tweaters)
I live in a fairly new building with concrete floor/ceiling and my living room (20 square meters at most) has a habit of amplifying some <45 Hz frequencies to 'interesting' levels.
First of all i've tweaked my cd-player in several stages (which obviously is the most fun), starting by removing the coupling capacitors, than the muting transistors, than upgrading the powersupply capacitors, than installing a seperate supply for the original clock, than installing a tentlabs XO clock and rewiring the powersupply for the DVdd of the DAC, now i've upgraded many of the other capacitors in the cd player (though I have removed the .22 uF SMD capacitors which gave me audible hi frequency noise 'white noise' on my speakers).
I end this introduction by saying i had loads of fun by modding this player, but now my questions to you is:
* what types of music do you listen to?
* Most of the people on this thread (yeah that's a generalization: I know) seem to describe the mods as unveiling of one of the other. Do you also notice an increased emphasis in the highs? Although this often results in a more detailed stereo image (in my view because 'micro details' are much more audible) this also makes some music less interesting to hear: rock or singers with a bit of a hoarse voice (such as Sarah Bettens' of the belgium group K's choice).
After modding my player I especially like to listen to jazz (like oscar peterson and some miles davis records), but many popular music is less interesting to hear, mostly because the music is more tiresome (not because the recordings just don't provide a more interesting listening experience). How are your experiences with modding this player and different styles of music?
Or am I the only one experiencing this because I listen to these different styles of music? (such as: Soulfly (metal), Ed rush & optical (House/DnB), pearl jam (alternative) and a tribe called quest(hip hop) )
Regards,
Jacco
Ps. I'm a critical listener and not at all unhappy with my player, my player's sound has emproved a lot since I got the player!

One thing I noticed as your system becomes more revealing ie better gear, better interconnects, and more mods to your player. You start finding that some of those old CD you like so much don't sound as good as you thought. I listain to all types of music on my modded CD63 but as my system gets better I tend to favor recording that have good production. Removing HADM was one of the biggest improvements realy took the edge off of the highs. I should have my clock card and opamps installed this week looking forward to that.

Hi,
I just modelled the analogue stage in LT spice.
Is that notch filter to take out the 32fs signal ?

For me, improving the powersupply was the best improvement, before that I did notice changes in sound, but after that, the seperation of the channels was just so much better.

Hi avr,
Same as Allan, the square looks like a sine on my scope. If you do a search on this topic you can find more about it, and how to do a proper measurement with a terminated cable.
The closest I got to a square was on the scope of a friend of mine:
Ray.
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/attachment.php?s=&postid=893438&stamp=1145047294
this was the scope pic i was refer to.
bottom line 1V/d 50ns/d
but then not knowing the scope, i maybe missing the big picture😀
allan
ohh I'm sorry. Thats correct. The Fluke newer lies. But pls ignore that reading. It was taken with a 1:1 probe, not good for the XO.
It was the latter pic. I was refering to. The one where my square began to look like a square. That is 5v pp.

Ok done a load of mods today: put steel sheet under chasis, schottky diodes, op-amps, and some audicom regs.
Put it all back together and the new IEC lead won't fit. The IEC socket i got from maplins has a bump/ridge down teh centre bottom part part of the socket, so no leads will fit. FFS. i bodged the old power lead back in atm.
I kille my godamn transport. When i turn on teh plyer it makes a fast clicking noise. I seem to have found that a white cog, attached tube with external thread are both moving, but a thin threaded black bar is not. SOunds like the teeth are out of position and not locking. Have tried to poke it back in a number of times. NO luck. WHat should i do ??
Disc won;t even spin btw.

p.s. happy easter !!!

Hi Jacco,
I must agree with Dave. As the system becomes more revealing, other points come forward as critical. That could be your interlinks, speakers or some cd's. Modern rock and pop is often recorded with lots of emphasis in mid and high, to make it burst out of your car stereo. With a good system a lot of music becomes unlistenable. But once you get hold of a good recording, you will enjoy it much more than before.
I listen to jazz, pop, alternative and rock mostly. Lots of women, stuff like Patricia Barber, Diana Krall, Bjork, Tori Amos, Mariza but also Simply Red and Dire Straits/Mark Knopfler. I have a Jennifer Warnes cd that is no longer pleasant to the ear. That woman also has a very typical voice like K's Sarah.

Ray.

It's not that stupid, cause I don't know the answer.....
Is there a modern Philips model that uses the exact same decoder and DAC?
I know the old toploader CD63, which is the same as the Philips CD100.

Not yet. The board is available for just £3.5 from Acoustica. This is worth a try. I'll order one (or 2).
