Yes Brent I forgot about Stuttgart! Quite a frisky old Marantz. I have never had problems with the French Post. Anyway this was a DHL bit of insanity; neither the Post or UPS. It's behind me now. Time to move on to ever greater hights. Speaking of which, my DOS board should be in Doncaster by now...

Don't be too optimistic! 😀
It's not posted yet, I had to go away suddenly.😡
Maybe tomorrow, if i'm home before the post-office closes...

Hurray for Ray! I'm chuffed (as the Brits would say). When the dust settles down, I will tell it like it is
Isn't that the idea? And hasn't it been so from the beginning? A quite innocent foray into some mild mannered modding of a has-been modest cdp from Marantz, that had turned into epic proportions and spurred countless others to have a go at other players. The bottom line is that the original designers didn't really try very hard or hadn't the knowledge (and much better parts now available) or were simply told to get on with it and get it to market.
In fact they didn't do all that well with their hi-end models either, from what I've heard. I bought my 67' years ago off the shelf for half-price, since it was a discontinued model already. Little did I know!
Let them play with their computers and usb ports and silly little ipods (no offence) and other abberations while the faithful keep the true flame alight...hmm am I having an epiphany??? I seem to remember saying much the same thing about my turntable when Cd's first came out...oh well live and learn. I'll keep quiet...for now.

LOL. My pc with a modded and clocked soundcard is a VERY good digital transport and hooked into my modded dac is better than any cd player I've yet had.
Lee.
I just knew someone would say that!!!! call me old-fashioned...or just old. Too much change doesn't sit well with me. Hell I'm only beginning to get a nice red-book sound.

Hear, hear!

Nothing wrong with a good transport though! 😀

Well, I have not heard any CDP sounding as good as a properly setup heavy TT with a state of the art riaa.
It depends on each one´s experience 🙂
I am beguining to be experienced now

High resolution files played via PC as a transport with top flight DAC could better CD players, vinyl or SACD. Usually most people don't realise a source's full potential or close to it so make wrong assumptions about what the limit is. I do think it's hard to get top end sound from a CD63 though...
I do know that a top flight tt and cart. etc is wonderfull but oh the expense!!! and oh the endless tweaking, to say nothing of having to get up every 28 minutes to change sides! and if you ever knackered a 1000$ cart by accident...agreed it's hard to get an old Marantz to sing, but isn't that the point? and now that you all have found out how to do it...oh wise and dilligent ones...hey we're talking what? in real terms something like 500£ all told (assuming you have the player) against say 3000£. I love my computer but it already rules my life. I don't want it to take over my music as well!
Computers are like Cybermen, one day they'll take over everything. 😀
That's why I haven't got a GSM!

CD63 KI problem...
Hello!!!
I got a small problem, but don't know what to do.....
In 2009 I bought a Marantz CD-63 MKII KI,...secondhand...no problems.
Now,..I'm not a technician,... so excuse me French here,...
I modded the CD63 with bitumous sheets, as seen on the pictures on your website,...that's all I did.
Now, when the cd skips from one track to the next, a loud "tick" comes out of my left speaker,...changed the channels,...right speaker "ticks".
So! The problem comes out of the CD63,...but what to do,...
Oh,...I've seen many mods on your website,...who can do this for me?
I'm not an electro-technician,...think i'm gonna kill the CD63 if I am modding it myself.
Many thanks in advance,
PBZzz

Sounds like the muting circuit has broken down. There are 4 transistors in front of the rca output sockets, cut them out and all should be well + a tiny tweak to the sound

So... he is COMPLAINING that he has a tick in one of the speakers between the tracks and you are recomending CUTTING out of all the muting transistors? Why, you think it will be happier if he hears the tick in BOTH speakers???
Some people...
It is from the mutting circuit at the outputs. Now, schematics I guess won't help you if you have no experience with the electronics so I would suggest to ask somebody that knows what is doing to look at it. It is nothing complicated, doesn't require anything but a simple measuring tool (AVO-meter) and a soldering device.Hello!!!Oh,...I've seen many mods on your website,...who can do this for me?

Thats a bit of an aggressive post for this thread😕

Sorry I know nothing about these units what so ever. But from my limited knowledge I know that the muting transistor cause this problem. Without them the 63 does not suffer from clicking between tracks as the muting is done digitally. You will get some noise when powering on and off though!
