I was just going to bypass the muting transistors next. I wanted to leave them in as it's for someone else who probably won't remember to turn the amp down before switching off the player.
Those 'orrible noises that are emitted after switch off with no muting, are they harmless?

I never broke anything with the thumps! But I have a muting relay now for completeness.

I've bypassed the muting transistors and the distortion went away completely, so thanks Phil. I also tested and turn on is silent and switch off has a very quiet little crack and that's it.
My cd67 makes some really loud 'orrible screeching noises at switch off, so I don't switch it off. Well, I have now cos it's fried another reg!

I habe found the cd67 to be much noisier than the 63 on turn off with muting removed.
I fitted Simons muting and I used a telecoms relay with silver contacts and uber low milli ohm resistance. I think Ray used the exact same ones.

Glad to be of help Lee (there's a first time for everything!).
I reckon, when those muting transistors fail, they start to leak above a certain voltage to ground. So, maybe one half of the cycle sort of clips. However that's just a hunch. I was never taught how a transistor behaves in failure (and I barely listened to how they behave normally 🙂 ).
I only spotted it by looking at the voltages around the muting transistors and noticed they were very different between the good and bad channels.
Anyway, whay am I discussing muting transistors? Nobody needs them!

Right, I have solved the digital out problem. It was down to a poor connection on the PCB. It seems that it is not always simple to remove and refit components on this board.
My next issue is probably very simple. I have removed CH11 off the live 240v input, largely because it was located on a piece of the board that I did not have room for. Now when I switch the CDP on, the main junction box in my house trips. Is removing CH11 the cause?
I have since thrown CH11 away (school boy error). If I need to replace it, what can I use instead? Do I put the cap in series with the mains in or parallel?

CH11 is just a mains X2 capacitor rated @ 0.01uF. Its just a really really really small noise filter across L N. This is not you problem.
Measure between L and N on the cdp to see if there is a leak.

Yes it is an smps in my cd63. In fact there are two, one 12v, and one 24v. See photo below. Having smps inside my "music centre" may not be ideal, but I wanted a standalone unit with one power switch.
I have cure the mains tripping, there was some leakage due to a poor connection.
Upon reassembly of the unit, the digital problem has come back. It seems that the rca socket has a short inside. The CD goes backwards! I will try and bypass the socket.
I will start a thread when I have finished.

I,m having a big doubt and would apreciate your comment.
I will be replacing the caps in the LM4562NA with some BG´s and want to remove all the resistors and put a copper from U210 to the output. Some of you said I needed some resistor to prevent instability in the opamps .... so I am not sure what to do...
I am using a CD53 without HDAM (in it´s place there is a 10ohm resistor... can I bypass it without problems ?
