Marantz CD63 & CD67 mods list

Yes ribbon !
Mine is close to be dead, when I have to settle back things inside the lid (wich I'll have to do very soon with my new Brent's Reg =) ) I'll have to let he lid open and move the ribbon until it spins right and fast. If it's not perfectly done I'll have some problems later, the CDP will stop playing and will not recognize CDs anymore but after a time powered off.
Move it lid open until it spins fast and focus at each try.

marantz 63 mod

Hi Brent, i swapped for a different mech from another 63 but the same problem persist- i think you are right -it must be the curse connector btw the mech and main board. BTW-hard wiring-what do you use -just normal wires ie cat5e Ok?

I have re-housed my CD63 in a wooden case along with a Monica2 NOS DAC.

I have taken the spdif signal for the Monica module direct from the board (having removed the PCB mounted socket. I have taken the positive signal from the rear peg (fitted by myself) and the return from the front one. I have not used the other rear connection, which appears to be designed to be grounded to the chassis, but I have attached a lead to it for use if needed.

I cannot get a lock on my DAC (which works OK from an alternative spdif signal). Can someone start me off on my debugging route please? Maybe it is a chassis grounding issue, or have I got my connections mixed up.

TIA.

I think you may have the connections the wrong way round.

The 2 rear connections are ground and the other is signal.

A general question about caps, as I'm havin' a look in a CD52SE:
it features some Cerafine and some Slimic, are they dead? It's quite an old player but my friend uses it very few, far less than I've used my CD53! Maybe it has played CD for 2 or 3 hours a week since then...
May I change these audio caps for left RJH and such or may I leave them until change them for BG or audio grade caps?

Thanks!
Matthieu

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Matthieu, as far as I know caps will still age even if they're not used, although I think not as much as if they were used a lot.

Does anyone know what could cause clipping during loud passages on the output of a cd67? This is not my player and has lm4562 opamps.

Lee.

I had distortion years ago on a CD63 (on only one channel).
It sounded like clipping, as it was mostly heard on loud passages.
It turned out to be faulty muting transistors.
I've no idea if they're still present on this player, but its an easy suspect to eliminate from your enquiries.
