Marantz CD63 & CD67 mods list

Here is where I put them, although the board has changed a bit since I took this pic.

Am I about to make smoke?

Can anyone help me with this? It seems odd to me, but I never checked it before mods.

With the board out and no power, I'm getting 0 ohms between u199 (+5v analog at dac) and ground plane. Is that normal? It seems like a short, but I never checked it before...

That means with no power, +5v is grounded? I can't see where I've caused this, so maybe it's normal...but I'm afraid to plug it in!

Help!😕

marantz 67 mods

Hi guys, i am having problems trying to replace the lasers from marantz 67-not the process with replacing the lasers but the player refuses to read the disc and the laser is trying to focus but not spinning the disc. I contacted the supplier who said that i am not a technician so bring it to the shop who charged me 200aus for replacing a laser!!!! Any suggestions what could be wrong- i don't have a remote thus not quite sure how to diagnose a problem. Thanks Quan.:hot: 😕

Definitely a dud or could you have broken the player?

Hold PLAY and STOP on the front panel when you turn the player on. Goes into service mode. Then press PLAY to enter diagnostic mode. Works as normal but gives you an error code when it encounters a problem. These are listed in the service manual.

I got a dud from Grandata in the UK (died after a month), which they replaced with another dud ($#!+ from the start). I sent that one back and heard nothing after that. I cannot be bothered wih it or them anymore as I had another one I could use anyway.

But fellow Poms, be wary of Grandata. 😱

Also, if they are borderline they seem to work a bit better in a 63 than a 67 (or 6000 from what I've heard).

This is not for my player but I have developed a little clock for fitting to cd players in the upgrade service I offer, I have also tweaked the servo clock by using a onboard 'C1' clock.

Eventually I will have the divide circuit made smt, but for now this is what it looks like.

Stable down to the last 2 digits too!

An externally hosted image should be here but it was not working when we last tested it.

Help?
Btw- the double post must have been me hitting the back button while looking for another page? weird.

Maybe this is a stupid question, but you could help save me from burning up my cd63se if you know the answer!

Help!

Do electrolytics fail to a short condition? Any comment or suggestions?
Thanks!

Thanks, So it is definitely an error state? I actually pulled the new regulator back off because I was checking around just after tying it in. No solder splashes; I'm not that messy! (My silver solder is easy to work with anyway.)

The last thing i did was lift a jumper u200 to isolate the analog 5v.😕

Brent, do you plan to sell your c1 on your site again? It's not listed anymore. I was considering buying a dedicated clock for my servo in the future,

Also, where's the best (cheapest) place to get damping material in the UK? I can't find it many places.

Hi

The C1 is a new product (so new I only got the finished items this week). The C1 will be added soon approx £35 + vat.
The piccy I posted was a C1 and divide circuit combined. I'm looking into making this divide pcb as an available product too.It probably won't be any bigger than the clock.

Andy Poynton suggested car audio shops if I remember correctly. I used Maplin but their Brown Bread product is very overpriced.

My local car shop still sells very reasonably priced sheets of deadening material, 3 for under 10 pounds.

NOTE not Halfords or the car audio shop. These are overpriced!!!!
