It uses discrete shunt regulation on the board itself. Better to have the regulation by the transistors. The whole thing is class A and shunt regulated, hence the PSU topology used.
Ray's one used shunt regs also, so I would expect it to be similar. His uses output coupling caps rather than DC servos which are of course more complicated. Very little of what you see on that board is in the signal path.
Hehe, I could try it that way too. I'm gonna use boggo regs for now as the Tent ones have become expensive from hifi-collective (I'm sure they've just put them up). I could try an unregulated supply vs 78/79xx and see what's best.

Soldered in my transistors last night for my discrete passive filter and buffer (Ray and Jaap to thank for the design!) Just need to buy the resistors and sort out some regulators and then I can test it.

opa627bp opamps question
hello, i was just wondering has anyone tried using the opa 627bp single dip package in the 67se model by turning them on edge and using 2 to replace each, dual opamp? i was told on another forum, that if using single dip packs to replace the dual dips that any, unused pins should be tied to ground? any thoughts on this grounding idea also? Thanks very much for any info! 🙂

The rack has provided so must more depth and control to the music, worth every penny. The speakers have great bass and very accurate natural midrange with what appears to be no colouration. I chose these as allthe reviews said they are very revealing and show up weaknesses in any system very easily, fortunately everything appears to be in order.

Just get some brown dog adaptors - they're cheap enough (from www.cimarrontechnology.com).

You just leave the offset adjust pins unconnected - don't ground them! You might ground unused inputs if using half of a dual op-amp but that's not what you're doing.
2xOPA627 sounds good. I found that putting an LM6171 in the first position (the one connected to the DAC) and an OPA627 in the second position was rather better though.
I used SMD and put LM6171 on the top and OPA627 on the bottom. All were free samples. 😀

hi, i found i had a brown dog for two single smds so, i had some ad8610s which i used for ic 1 and ic 2 and i also had a brown dog left which was suited for one of the ad8620s that i used to replace the other lm6172. they seem to sound very good now! smoother than the 6172s in the midrange band even with good decoupling on the 6172s and also, they have good detail. i may try something else later lol! thanks very much for your help! 🙂

AD8065x2 (or AD8066) is also well worth a try!
It's fun to try all these when those adaptors are so cheap and it's so easy to get free samples. 🙂
hi, if i were to use two brown dog adapters with ad8610/opa627au on each one, should the 627s go on ic1 on both brown dogs and the 8610s go on the bottom ic2 of both brown dog adapters or am i all confused lol!Glenn2 said:

I tried OPA627bp x2 and that was pleasant, but LM4562 is much more accurate sounding, much more faithful. Give me a week and there'll be no op-amps in there...
