Indeed it does!
I originaly used them with a pair of SPowers and they were truely outstanding.
You could always phase your approach. Start with the DOS and std additional 78/79xx regs. The migrate to something like SPower? They really come alive with decent regulation.
But then I believe in the following statement
" when listening to audio, you are really listening to the power supply!"

Thanks guys, i'm glad this turned out to be such a great upgrade.
I have plenty of boards in stock 😀

But it probably likes super regs.
Yes - I've tried it both ways.
With 7812/7912 it sounds great but the sound opens up hugely on S Powers. The treble becomes a lot more crisp in particular! It's a winning formula.

LOL
Simon I think Ian was laughing at the "you've tried both ways" comment hehe.
Thanks for the positive comment on the SPower regs 😉

Hi guys, one week without Internet was a pain...
The player was sold on eBay, cheaper than a CD63 KI... a pitty, 10 or 20€ more than a "opamp and 4 caps" mod! People are so stupid... including me.
I've been through the no-mech action, fitted back the original servo Xtal and now it focus well... but no spin at all, error 10. If my master clock is dead, as it's the Decoder's duty to run the disc motor, what it does? Error 10?
Thanks
Matthieu

CD63SE as transport
Hello everyone. I have an old CD63SE with cheap clock modification, and better power cord cable (both hungarian small-scale product), and some case reinforcement with bitumen sheets. What do you think, can I use as transport? better, egal or weaker than notebook with M2Tech HiFace Usb/SPDIF converter. I don't listen higher sample rate/higher bit resolution music just CD-s. What's the recommended mods for use as transport? My dac currently a chinese AD1865N dac with tube output and i'm thinking about acquiring a Behringer SRC2496 and change old AK4393 to AK4396 and build a tube output a-la Lampizator.
Thanks for help, and sorry for my bad english...

Re-use your clock but at Servo, regulate the drivers. That may do a good transport. Maybe a dedicated regulator for decoder and the coax mod for HF signal.
Transport remind me something... oh yes! "services postaux"!... hem I mean "sevices postaux"...

I was planning to do the same, so I bought a SRC2496. When I hooked it up (unmodded), my Network Media Tank (sigma chip?) proved to be a better transport than my modded CD63...
We might be better of with buying a CD-player with a CDM9/4 (at least a recognized good mech) than trying to use the cd63.
Hi feket663
Once you upgrade the CD63SE to be able to use it as a transport, and add a DOS you will surelly have killed the chinese dac !!!

thanks for all useful info on comments. Only one thing not understand...
What is the DOS?🙂
DOS Discrete output stage - see the previous posts by Ray (6h5c)
It replaces all of the post DAC output stages (filter OpAmps and HDAM) in the player and transforms its perfomance beyond recognition!

If you're going to use the cd player as a transport, clocking the servo is a must. You'll get massively improved sound.

Nice boxes! 😎
Big advantage of such streamers or other solid-state players is the absence of a transport mechanism: no vibrations or speed variations. Did you put a decent clock in the Squeezebox? I have a Pinnacle Showcenter that already sounds very good with my ezDAC, and it hasn't had any mods yet. Emphasis on 'yet' 😀

Good thinking on giving the dac a dedicated output section and psu. The psu really is crap in those.
The Squeeze Box works very well with a 11.28Mhz clock installed. Also look at running a second psu into it so that the +55V switchmode psu to the display is isolated from the 5V and 3.3V
