A little confused....considering that I'm using 3 AP100Z0's, 1 mid, and 2 for bass. I thought I read (or misread) that wiring the two bass in series give +3b and doubles load, wiring in parallel gives +6db and halves load. Both bass drivers will run up to the BS.

two drivers in series :

Voltage sensitivity change = 0dB, impedance (-3dB) and efficiency (+3dB) double and cancel each other.

two drivers in parallel :

Voltage sensitivity change = +6dB, impedance halves (+3dB) and efficiency doubles (+3dB).

Ok, I have three AP100Z0's with (DCR 5.7 ohms) and 1 tweeter (say 4.4 ohms DCR). I also want to use one traffo and up to three lm3875's.

So far I've decided on ~20 litres ported for the bass cab, and ~3 litres sealed for the mid in a TMWW config. I want this to be as small and compact as possible (i.e not floorstanding).

My concern is wiring two AP100Z0's in parallel for full BSC and giving a 3 ohm nominal load to the amp.

So all things considered, what would you do?

An amplifier per driver sounds more sensible to me.

Also, the AP2100Z0 isn't exactly a legend at making stonking bass. But there is another 8", for just £15 which looks good, can't remember the model. Richie00boy, iirc, is contemplating using it.

Well, I finaly picked up my new crossover componenets when I was in work yesterday, so I should heopefully get round to wiring them in today and seeing what effect they have on the sound of the speaker.

Also, with regards to the above comment, can anyone who does know which driver this is let me know, as at £15 I would be intrested in having a look at it to see what it might be able to produce.

Thanks for repeating that bigparsnip, I missed it the first time around. Yes, I am looking into side-mounting an 8 inch woofer.

Buying from Maplin gives 3 choices. The middle choice of AP210G6 may be the best for a compact vented box, the lower AP210M0 is not much use for anything. The AP210Z0 looks best for my application, and is good for a larger vented box. However, I suspect that there may be better drivers around for authoritative bass as even the best Xmax of these is a paltry 2.6mm and BL is not the best I have seen for drivers of this size. Inductances are also fairly high.

I'm gonna look elsewhere...

Why dont you consider some of the "PA drivers"? I think the Delta 10 could be ok in a ported enclosure.

When I can be bothered, im going to model the "HIFI" drivers that BK Electronics stock.

Im looking for a driver that will match the pair of TW034X0 that I already have. They should be ok down to 1k and the Delta 10 will easily go this high so it should be an ok match. I also want a driver that will play down to 100Hz as this is where my sub is crossed over.

how much more volume

Exams are over...speakers here i come,

Anyway, what additional volume should i add to allow for two Ap100Zo's and the port?

I intend to use two layers of 18mm MDF for the front baffle so that i can create a chiselled front to the cabinets.

i am assuming that i can work out the volume of the drivers and tube minus the baffle depth and then add it to the winisd volume?

Also can i put the port in the front of the cabinet so that i can mount them on a wall?

This is what i am considering as my design (2 ap100Z drivers and one 34mm audax tweeter per cabinet). Crossover design yet to be finalised.......

The drivers are so small that accouting for their volume is probably superfluous. Also depends on how big the port is to determine whether it will make much difference. But off course I would do both anyway 😀

You can put the port where you like, as long as it's not being obstructed.

Is that an f3 ~39Hz? Which T/S are you using? I calclated > 20litres for that kind of f3 (unibox).

edit: nop, it's about 48Hz f3. seems ok now. 😉

TS parameters used were the standard ones for winisd, i have compared your results with the winisd ones. (see below) I struggled to get anything better...........

To be honest i had forgotten that you had carried out your own "real world" assesment. there seems to be quite some difference.

Out of interest what volume did unibox calculate?

Vikash, I entered the T/S perameters that you mesured into WinISD, but I get a really peaked squiggle whatever volume or port tuning I use. What have I done wrong?

Also, What value should I use for the BL? It is not on the datasheet, so I just copied the value from the AP100Z0 already in the database (4) is this correct?

Well I am finally posting on this thread long after buying 8 of these AP100Z0s.

my plan is to make 5 speakers for a small home cinema set up. But i dont really know how :xeye:

well anyway i was thinking about an MTM for the center and 2.5way for the left and right and a normal 2 way for the 2 rears.

I am also making a sub that the amp will cross over to at 80Hz so the speakers dont have to go very low. Although the front 2 and the center should be of use for watchin TV without the sub being on so they would have to be of a reasonable low response.

I just saw D1GGY's plans and they look good, are they 2.5way (I hope that is the correct term). What tweeter and you using? is it the TW034X0.

thanks for any help
Mark🙂
