Hi Diggy,OK my initial design thoughts.............
Just to share, I want to keep my overall enclosure as small as possible which means using up the space behind the mid and tweeter encloser (or just tweeter in your case) . So you may want to look into an L shaped enclosure to to keep the volume low (It's probably worthwhile sealing the tweeter into into its own compartment, but no need to waste all that space behind it).
Also, I like that you're going for a slot port. I don't know the physics behind it but it's always seemed weird to me how people concentrate on reducing cabinet vibration, then stick a relatively thin plastic port into the box.
The squiggle (lol) seems right. Consider that you're modelling a ported enclosure at ~12l and I'm looking at >17l. And also note that your response shows a ripple of less than ~0.3db. Nothing to worry about, especially since other variables in the equation (the room) are likely to have a more drastic effect. I don't think BL is important in this scenario.Matttcattt said:Vikash, I entered the T/S perameters that you mesured into WinISD, but I get a really peaked squiggle whatever volume or port tuning I use. What have I done wrong?
Also, What value should I use for the BL? It is not on the datasheet, so I just copied the value from the AP100Z0 already in the database (4) is this correct?
I hope sreten will chime in here with his experience and give a second opinion...

Ahh, looking at your graphs again, you are using two, drivers. This reduces the squiggle. Also, winISD is behaving now, and giving me a reasonable prediction for optimal volume and tuning. Flatish to 50Hz in 12L...
Got my final exam in about 15 mins, after which im free to make my DAC, finish off a current pair of speakers and then build my audax/morel combo! YaY lol😀
They are gonna be a 2.5 way with the .5 driver mounted on the rear of the cabinet, finished in cherry veneer. Should end up lookin really nice.

Just got my 6 AP100Z0 from Maplin a few days ago! 😀
What are your thoughts on using them in an Open Baffel MTM config? The seem to have a Qts of around 0.6 which should be fine, but since I haven't seen any posts on the subject...

Hi vikash, I was a little confused by your post at first ( L shaped enclosure etc) as i knew that my design includes the space behind the tweeter, but this is not apparent from the drawing i posted!!! 😀
The "divide" between the woofers and the tweeeter is meant to be a brace with a hole through the middle of it asnd was not meant to form a tweeter enclosure, how ever your comments on isolating it from the other drivers enclosure is acknowledged and will be incorportaed in version 2 😉 thank you.
The dimensions used in the CAD drawing are to scale and the dimensions used will give a 17L enclosure. i am working on more presentable version at the moment.

Yep they are TW034XO's in one of my posts is an example of this driver the AP's and an F1. The tweeters are HUGE!!,
And yes i was looking at a 2.5 way crossover design initially but i also like the way my other speakers perfomed when i changed to a series crossover, designed for me by Tony Gee, undecided at the moment really...............
Stappvargen,
Are these particular drivers well suited to this type of application then? What benefits will this type of design bring, will it be suitable for "monitor" style in my office??
5th Element,
I too considered mounting the .5 driver in the back, but could not seem to find a "nice" layout for the front baffle with the BIG 34mm tweeter!, good luck with that it sounds great.

I just saw D1GGY's plans and they look good, are they 2.5way (I hope that is the correct term). What tweeter and you using? is it the TW034X0

I believe Matt (5th Element) did this when he first got his drivers. If you siv through the earlier posts you should find his preliminary finds and some pics.stappvargen said:Just got my 6 AP100Z0 from Maplin a few days ago! 😀

I was very impressed with an MTM open baffle using these. My active xover was set up for SS2905/97 and a W15cy001 in an OB configuration. I didnt alter this one bit and just connected the audax and morel up. This sounded very good indeed for a £5 driver, xover was at about 3k but not much more can be said then that because it was not set up for these drivers. I would guess maybe I had 3rd order on the mids and 4th on the tweet.
The open baffle EQ was from about 50hz to 500hz. With an XLS crossed in at 150hz. As far as im concerned with regards to max SPL these would go loud enought for anyone with a medium size room (mines 4*3 meters roughly) unless you are interested in loosing your hearing. Oviously getting them to do all the bass is going to limit the SPL even more.

Thanx.
I'm planning on using them on the center and rear channels together with T25-001 from Seas. I know, the tweeters cost about x6 more that the AP100Z0s...but I just can't stand a bad tweeter!
The center will have active filters, rear passive.

Try 12x more!!!stappvargen said:I'm planning on using them on the center and rear channels together with T25-001 from Seas. I know, the tweeters cost about x6 more that the AP100Z0s...,

Yes, that's what I thought.Ian J said:Here in the UK the T25-001 Excel tweeter is ~£60 = 12 *5
But regardless of what it costs us or you, these tweeters might work well with these drivers - I'm sure they'll not be disgraced by having a good tweeter above them!
I look forward to hearing what you get out of them.
I'll be sure to report back.
PS: bought my T25-001 at Zalytron (http://www.zalytron.com/) for $62.50 , the AP100Z0 cost £5->9$, so about a factor x6.

have i gone mad, is this sensible??
having noticed that other drivers have been discounted by maplin i have purchased two ap210zo woofers for use with the ap100's and 34mm tweeters.........
I intend to use the them in a 3 way design, is this sensible? 😕
Any comments would be welcome..............I was bored at work and they seemed good value to me

You're going for a 3 way?
I might do two models; a compact 2-way suitable for on-desk use and a larger 3-way for small stands/shelf use.

Oh.
I have ordered my AP210G6, but my second TX034X0 (ordered a pair from Maplin) hasnt arived yet. According to the invoice in the envelope, they were sent together, and they were left with my neighbour, so maybe the other one, in a seperate envelope, is still somewhere in the postal system, or, more probably, with my neighbour...

Do you think 18mm MDF is overkill for this? I think thinner stuff would split with screws through the edges...
"Models"? Are you going into production or something? 😛
