Maplin 100W mosFET amplifier built from 1980 kit

Maplin 100w Rocks!

I have been wanting to test the classic Maplin design for quite some time.
I did not like to original Maplin pcb as published many years ago.
So I used Prasi's design from post#38 in this thread.
I used the highest hFE matching 2SA872A in my collection for the LTP and KSA992/KSC1885 for the VAS and stuff.
Outputs are old stock 2SJ162 and 2SK1058. Offset ~5mV.
It sounds surprisingly good with deep bass, no hum no hiss.
Thanks Prasi for the perfect pcb design (as usual!).

I've been hankering about another Hitachi based Mosfet amp for a while and ending up buying a used one for listening too and improving (I'm sure the electrolytics will be due for replacement). Because although I have had many amps since solid state and thermionic, diy and commercial, There was something missing from my experience with that early Mosfet design. So lovely to be reading this thread ! Thank you Diyaudio for keeping it open 🙂
