I have an IanCanada stack on a PI4 consisting of a PurePi II power supply, ES9028Q2M DAC, I/V Standard OPA IV Stage, and an ESS controller. I was using an IFI Zen streamer to a Schiit Modious DAC. The IanCanada stack is significantly better, especially in depth and musicality. It's just a joy to listen too. I took a more budget oriented approach than most here, but it's not a compromise IMHO, and I can always upgrade when I want. I run a LMS and currently use MoOde as a player to access Tidal and a large selection of local files. It all works very well together.
You should consider adding the M.2 drive and the add on board for it, it goes amazingly fast with Moode and I can't recommend it enough!

I think I'm gonna copy you...I use the Modious myself for my second system in the bedroom and just tested it in my main listening room against the DAC in my B&K and I think the Modious sounded better. Still deciding trying to figure out what to do.I have an IanCanada stack on a PI4 consisting of a PurePi II power supply, ES9028Q2M DAC, I/V Standard OPA IV Stage, and an ESS controller. For the Rpi 5 but for this price why not? https://www.amazon.com/Raspberry-Pi...sprefix=raspberry+pi+5+m2,aps,134&sr=8-6&th=1You should consider adding the M.2 drive and the add on board for it, it goes amazingly fast with Moode and I can't recommend it enough!
I upgraded the OP amps to TI Dual 1612 OP AMP and it made a very big difference. More open, air, detail, soundstage bigger, and an overall warmth without sounding veiled or dull.I think I'm gonna copy you...I use the Modious myself for my second system in the bedroom and just tested it in my main listening room against the DAC in my B&K and I think the Modious sounded better. Maybe someone here can help. I recently purchased a TransportPi Digi II. Mounted on RPi 4 using Gentooplayer. Sounded lovely. I tried to use an external 3.3 VDC supply, removed jumpers, checked polarity. Board powered up but no signal to my DAC. Removed supply, restored jumpers, board still powers up but no signal to DAC. Is there a forum or thread that addresses issues like this? TIA!
Scracth that. It was the Pi, apparently. I switched Pis and thank heavens the card works. I need to get advice before I fool with it again. ;-)
I have had all kinds of issues, mostly just learning curve issues for me, but one of the problems I was having was a GPIO extender was making it so my Ian DAC wouldn't lock on anything above 44.1 kHz. Now just think what I had to go through to figure out it was a GPIO extension causing the problem.
hi, Has anyone tried to build a streamer and/or a DAC with a Raspberry Pi 5, Ian Canada components, and an ESS9039PRO DAC? Maybe with a touchscreen to control the operating system or a remote control? Thank you very much!
