Lovoltech power Jfet groupbuy

Judging from the heatsinks, the amp in the picture is good for about 2W. Maybe. And that's with forced air cooling--an option available at extra cost, no doubt.
The wood portion of the cabinet could be better. I'm assuming that this is supposed to be a commercial product of some sort, but MDF with vinyl covering (?) just doesn't convince me that we're dealing with 'top end' equipment, especially since they couldn't even be bothered to mitre the corners.
I was given a couple of chassis from some old equipment that was styled on the outside to look somewhat like '70s era Levinson stuff. Pop the can, however, and the thing turned out to be full of 4558 opamps, which they had sealed into little black boxes to keep anyone from seeing the opamps for what they were. (They didn't count on me. Epoxy? I laugh at epoxy.) Anyway, the point is that their lah-de-dah power amplifier was also a 19" single rack space chassis (!) with 4558s driving TIP outputs. Junk. Pure junk. It had dinky little heatsinks across the back like the amp in that picture. Even biased very lightly, the things would blow cookies if you played them above conversational levels. The heatsinks just weren't big enough to amount to anything. Needless to say, the company didn't last very long. I've had it in mind to put some sort of chip amp into the chassis, but now I've seen the error of my ways. What these things really need is a full-blooded 50W class A amp (stereo, natch) in each chassis.
Silly me! What was I thinking? What with all these class A designers running around using little bitty heatsinks, I stand revealed as a true dinosaur. I've got to get with the times. Get modern. Get small.
Get cooked...

You got it wrong, George is a philosopher.

And,... another fine specimen in the wave of ecologic Australian audio designers, noting from the natural "give me that earth feel" materials used.
Of course it is balanced, can't you tell, the center of gravity is in the middle.
Class A as ultimate as can be, straight from the wall socket to the speaker, nothing inbetween.
As a demonstration of the SOTA techniques incorporated by George in this product only the very best web connection is used: ultra high speed and resolution.

The order is in process and I hope to receive the parts by the middle of January.
I've been asking for patience. I now give you guys (& gals) permission to get a little excited. Not too much, mind you, just the kind of low-level buzz you get around the first week of December when Christmas moves from being an abstract number on the calendar to a real date when a certain jolly fat man hops aboard his sleigh to deliver lots of JFETs to all good little boys and girls.
I am still mulling over the matched parts thing. If I do decide to offer matched parts, it will be to the accompaniment of many complaints and very, very much fussing. Expect my posts to be liberally laced with *s, as I shall use language that the Lords-Of-DIY do not care for.
Harrumph!
(Just ignore my cussin' the same way you always do...)
I have a handful of projects that I will post as soon as I can get the details ironed out. Currently, I am hampered by only having two devices on hand, but I'm poking away as fast as I can. I am specifically trying to steer away from things that I think Nelson will do (with one possible exception). Naturally, Nelson will throw curve balls at you as fast as he can...so you will not lack for seeds for projects.
Speaking personally, I'm getting a little wired, but then I'm allowing myself the liberty of sleepless nights. You folks are all expected to remain cool as cucumbers, of course. The occasional squeak of excitement will be ignored, but wholesale, rampant rowdiness will not be tolerated. I will, in fact, tell Santa on you and you may find ashes and switches in your stockings.
With luck, I'll have concrete availability news for you in another week or two. Cross your fingers that the parts don't get shipped to the South Pole by mistake.

Another buyer for Lovoltech

I just read Mr. Pass's article in AudioXpress. Would I be able to purchase 10 LU1014s at this late of date? Also, forgive me, but I'm rather computer stupid. How would I enter my request in the groupbuy WIKI? Which buttons do I click, enter, write, push-pull, SET etc. :dead: By the way, thanks so much GRollins and grataku.
P.S. If I am only able to purchase 2 pcs. that would also be great.

BC,
Two pieces? Absolutely not a problem. You're exactly the kind of person I had in mind when I proposed to sell any quantity to any buyer.
You want one? You get one. You want 100, you get 100.
You want 2 pieces, then that's what you get.
Don't worry about getting your name on the Wiki. I'll post details about how to do this once the parts come in. I anticipate having enough devices on hand to get people started on Nelson's first amp and perhaps his second before I start running low. I will consider reordering at that time, depending on the baby, how far behind I am on my writing, etc.
I make no claims as to whether people will want to build any projects I might post, but perhaps they can serve as conversation pieces. (Why on Earth did he do that when he could have done it this way?)
grataku,
Puns? Love 'em. Ask my long-suffering wife. Every once in a while, she manages to fire a few back, but mostly she just groans and suffers.
The name Rollins, incidentally, is said to derive in one way or another from "wolf" way back in the days of yore. My first name comes from "grey-haired," although I'm not, yet...just a few speckles in my beard. Hence, my name translates literally as "grey-haired wolf," but I've always identified more closely with other animals, such as bears and raccoons.

Yea! Project #10001343

Thanks Grey for the post and positive answer. I emailed Mr. Pass, and he was gracious enough to respond, informing me that he recommended that the Fets should be matched by you (at an increase of cost of course). You, of course, do what you feel best. Depending on cost, I would probably appreciate 10 pcs. as I originally mentioned. I patiently await the availability. Thanks again.😎

for GRollins:

first-tnx for all the fish (if I spelled that sentence correctly 😉 )

second- make that in way most appropriate for you- in any case your effort must be in some way payed,so choose any "profit" percentage you want.

third-even if for me any sort of money transfer to "outer world" is major PITA ,I'll certainly try to buy several pieces for me and my few friends...

so- be persistent with newest adventure .....

The answer, if I recall correctly, is: 42.
David Briggs has offered/threatened to handle Europe. I will let him know as soon as I have parts, and you can make arrangements with him.
And now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to try to sneak in an hour or two of Mad Scientist time down in the Dungeon. A pair of LU1014s await...

Ello all

As Grey says I will be sorting the euro side of things. I expect the price of the chips to be a bit more than the US . I will have to take into consideration the tax/duty etc that will be charged when the shipment arrives. I propose to use paypal I will also consider bank transfers but no western union. The charges for the payment method will also be reflected in the price. I may offer some "limited" matched chips I may not , we shall see.
I will keep people updated.

Dave

I realize that you guys have lots of things on your minds--like pictures from the CES, full-range drivers, and whether gold sounds better than silver or vice versa, but for those who are sufficiently weary of the same ol', same ol' I thought I'd mention that the Lovoltech LU1014D power JFETs came in this afternoon right before I left for work.
Just in case, you know...you were bored or something...

Grey

Hang loose just a little longer and I'll get this whole thing going either later tonight or tomorrow morning. I'm in super-overdrive at the moment and can't spare the time to post the details.

Grey

P.S.: They're cute little buggers...
P.P.S.: I managed to get in about an hour this afternoon working on a circuit. I hope to squeeze a little more time in over the next day or two so as to be able to nail that down and give people another circuit option.
