Guys, guys, guys...
(and gals, if any...)
This is rapidly spinning out of control.
Now you see why I have avoided group buys. In theory, everybody gets a great price break or, as in this case, access to parts that are not widely available. In practice, it turns out to be an exercise in herding cats.
Ugh.
I will hereby (subject to two limitations, which I'll get to in a moment) float the following heretical idea: I will buy a batch of Lovoltech JFETs out of pocket. I will then put the parts I don't need up for sale to North American buyers.
WARNING--IF I DO THIS, IT WILL BE A FOR-PROFIT ENDEAVOR.
Granted, it ain't a group buy, but it will build some flexibility into the system. Profit margins will not be onerous, but I have so little time to spare that if anyone expects me to herd cats, it's going to have to be worth my time; in other words, it will have to pay me at least as well as my writing.
Oh, and none of this goofy Wiki stuff, either. You want 'em, you send in an order, prepaid, and I'll ship the parts out when the check clears the bank. You stiff me, I send the Mafia after you to break your leg, steal your woman, something evil.
Limitations, caveats, and other nonsense:
1) I will, in effect, be setting myself up as an unofficial Lovoltech North American distributor. They might or might not like that.
2) A couple grand ain't pocket change. I'll want to see earnest money for at least half--maybe two-thirds--of the batch before I pony up.
If the first batch sells through, then I may decide to order in another batch to keep the ball rolling.
No, I absolutely, positively, without question will not match parts. This will take more time than I can justify, anyway. To multiply that times four is out of the question. You'll take what comes out of the tube. No whining.
There it is. Discuss it. I'll check in later.

Why not consider MPmarinos nice offer? It escapes me why nobody has responded to that nice offer
I would go for Marc's offer, anytime, but then again I am not North-american.
I Know Mpmarino and the guy is highly recommended and seems to have the time for doing this also, and thats important! Otherwise you will end up with sad people, waiting for their goods. We have had enough of that, dont we?
Steen🙂

Grey,
An excellent idea and one I toyed with for about 10 minutes before deciding that for me it wasn't worth the likely ensuing argument over profit margins.
What did you have in mind?
Jeremy
We will need to sort out a purchase for the rest of the world. This being as more than 70% of the wiki is not in the US......
Read this post again:We will need to sort out a purchase for the rest of the world.
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?postid=779860#post779860 I think this is the way to go, no restrictions up front and no whining about having no time😉
This is not meant to offend anyone, but it sounds good to me🙂

Steen,
Thanks for the vote of confidence. Funny that I actually have little time to spare but somehow seem to get things done. Well, that except for my DIY projects.

Anyway, I will discuss this with my wife as a possibility. A couple grand isn't chump change but it is a small number to get something rolling.....IMHO. What I offered I consider independent of the
GP. For the future. I am just putting my feelers out..it seems like a good place. Again, Mods, do with my post what you wish.
this would also hinge upon whether everyone gets the 610's I recently shipped. So far so good as far as I know. It is a good test of the system anyway.
Grey,
There are alot of idea floating around here at this point, the final decision will be made by Moe and a few other trusted advisors.
The general idea of groupbuys has worked fine on this site for years, abeit with a few hickuops along the way. This particular group buy will get done and I think you should stop injecting controversy in oder to attempt derailinrg the process in order to make a profit.
If you were so inclined you should have started your own mini operation in the market place session instead of using this thread to gauge the market.

The test turned out better than good🙂 Thanks. If you consider this on a serious matter, just buy the devices and put them for sale in the market place😉 I am sure you will get rid of them🙂 A smallish profit wont hurt anyone. You have to cover for packages not received and so on. That has been the problem for the other GB's with nonprofit at all. The GB handlers had to pay out of their own pocket to fill the contract. It is a good test of the system anyway.

Grataku,
If this was directed at me, and I think some of it was, You have misunderstood my intentions. I was simply thinking that my suggestion could be a good thing for everybody. I DO NOT want to derail the GP. ABSOLUTELY NOT. The project is commendable and requires a lot of work.
Anyway, maybe you are right. This very well could be the wrong place. I was simply choosing a place that would give some feedback and not make a post that would go to oblivian. I was thinking that some solid feedback would be nice before significant personal investment was made. If your post is any indication...I'm done, for now anyway.
regards,
Marc
You are right, Al🙂 Lets just have those Jfets come rolling. No more arguing😉 I will just wait and see what happens😎Guys, stop winding each other up.
I think Grataku stated that this GB goes🙂
Steen😎
Why don't you just wait what Moe has to say, he is the one who offered to do the order and made the effort of getting in touch with Lovoltech.
Ok Ok I LOVE the idea of 30 each
Lets keep it simple, Sorry to have suggested a complication....

I also think that 30ea. would be the best temporary solution. People tend to buy more than they really need, so this prevents them from excessive spending😉
I still have a pile of Aleph X boards and heatsinks, I bought in previous group buys, and I probably never use them anyway.
30ea also simplifies processing, sorting and packaging. Those who want more can start another GB sequence.

Jacco has it exactly right. If Moe is taking on the task and substantial effort of operating the group buy, then the rules are whatever Moe says they are, and when he says jump, we all ask how high! We all want what we want, but he's the one offering to do us all a huge favour, so we should thankfully accept whatever he is willing to offer, and be grateful for the opportunity.
My two cents

Moe! Moe!
He's our man!
If he can't do it
No one can!
goooooOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MOE!
😀
I think Moe is feeling very overwhelmed by all of this. I EMailed him earlier and told him to put it all out of his mind for a bit and just try to have himself a nice weekend.
How 'bout we all do the same?
se
Metalman puts it just right, as usual😉
Steen🙂
I'll second that🙂How 'bout we all do the same?
Steen🙂

I think Steve's idea is a good one. Can we let this all rest until Moe comes back with some news please. All this arguing round in circles doesn't get anyone anywhere
