For one thing, the 5534 has a nondegenerated BJT input stage, while the LM318 features degenerated Darlingtons. In the 5534 output stage all the heavy lifting is done by NPN parts (presumable to cut down die size and possibly enable use of a process with less good PNPs as well), while the LM318 features some PNPs as well.
