Since there has been some recent activity, and I'm still stuck with one resistor smoking when connecting the power, I'll give my question one more shot:
When I was plugging the power in, the R21 resister started smoking. Since I am a noob and don't read schematics very well, can anyone for starters help me and tell me that resistors function. I would be for ever grateful. The schematic attached.

R21 links the signal ground to chassis earth. It would seem you have a large difference in potential betwen the two. Possibly a higher power resistor would work, but as I don't know why you have such a difference, that could be dangerous.
Just bought a Lite Audio MV-01 / MV-06 remote controlled volume/input selector and hooked it all up what i thought was correct, to my diy tube preamp everything works but Iam getting an irritating hum I think its a open ground issue any help would be great .

Apologies for ressurecting a zombie thread, but does anyone know how much current the MV06 draws? I need to go buy a transformer...
