Yes the CCS scheme is built for larger loads, the original Placid BP was not really intended for high current. It was really designed for IVY III.
Russ,
I suppose a single Placid HD for supplying the power hungry BII+Tridents will be available also?

What's the current limit? Also, how much current would the Legato 3 need?the CCS scheme is built for larger loads
Any estimated time of departure (from stock) of the HD ?
That all depends on how this prototype works out. 🙂
Guys, when will you design 8 channel DAC based on ES9018 chip?
Who says we haven't? 😉
Not everything we design makes it too production. At least not until we decide its ready. 🙂
1) What's the current limit? Also, 2) how much current would the Legato 3 need?
1) Depends on the app. Voltage drop etc. But it is designed to do 1.5A or so under the right conditions. Its just a prototype right now, so we still need to test the limits, but that is what it is designed to do provided adequate heat sinking etc.
2) About ~200ma each rail idle. You will want to add to that your anticipated headphone (with 2VRMS) load to get your CCS cuurent plus say 25% headroom. I would say 300-400ma from CCS would be a pretty good place to start.
So, when it will be ready to order? I'm not asking an exact time, just approximate.
That is yet to be determined.

Yes quite likely, but Placid is actually a different circuit then Placid BP and really more suited for high current than PlacidBP.
Russ and Brian,
Do I understand correctly that when using the L3 with balanced output only the circuit is identical to that of L2 (except for the missing caps and different fets)?
Cheers,
Nic

I mean...with a PlacidBP is possible to obtain +-12V and 300 mA...isn't it? Is that sufficient?

Nothing to explain, just that if you want to supply a different diy device that needs higher currents, like a preamp, or even a little poweramp, you can do so.
