Hi Woody. I have four 182es and two 182. Plus two 183 same your photo, broken. None it is useful for one matched pair (matching using full curves, not one point). With thf51 I have been good luck, my friend dady and me have two almost perfectly matched pairs ( I measured 25 pieces, more or less). But if you can get some 2sk180C or D types, then it is probably you can get very good pairs. I think C and D type were selected devices from production and you could build something nice. Look at BAF thread and the version of lamp with two devices in parallel. Now, my actual amp is one lamp with one thf51 and resistor bias. I can get 12wrms at 8ohm, with a sound really wonderful.

No go for the real big 1000 watt ones .... These puppies would be harder to use as they need to be sandwiched between 2 heatsinks with a lot of contact force. Now finding a source for these may be a little hard ...

I just happened to find this rusty things on a surplus box. these are pulls from and old hospital equip't as per seller..he gave me 11pcs of it at 3usd each and upon initial test they are still working...just don't test for matching.
Just cleaned them and now looks better...
Recycled from old equipement yeah was used in many machines.
3 $ pcs 😀 great you put them in class A amplifier circuit and new life start they run warm again.

Even there data sheet is a little confusing keep in mind the 2sk182 is the round hocky puck shaped 1000w device and the 2sk182e is in the other flange type case like a to3 and is rated at 500W . By the way if you look at this pdf they even had some huge 3000 W devices !!!!

I worked with SCR's and diodes in this package ages ago. They require special mounting and heat sink hardware, and are picky about proper clamp pressure for reliability. If you could get the heat sinks they were mounted on that would be ideal. Very cool devices and interesting (to me) topologies! Thank you for sharing with the group.
Someone asked how big they are-- if memory serves me they are about 1/2 inch thick and about two inches in diameter.
The 1000 watt package is 55 mm in diameter and the 3000 watt device is 76 mm in diameter. I am not sure if the 3000 watt device was actually available as a few of these

Now to practical maters. If I just wanted an inductor loaded amp to just cover above 400hz would I be able to use a small inductor say around 3mh instead of that 110 mh one Michael Rothacher used in his amp ? Wouldn't a 3mh inductor give a 6 db per octive crossover point at ~400 hz for an 8 ohm speaker if the impedence curve was rather flat.
