Hi,
is 600VA for a monoblock or a 2channel stereo amplifier?
The standard KSA50mk2 has two 400VA for it's 50W+50W of ClassA.

Hi AndrewT
Well, you could not use the transformer for an already built KSA-50 without some small changes in the front end/driver board. Thinking of the 27V zener bias circuit for example. There is maybe some other things in the circuit that has to be modified before applying the higher rail voltage (ca 47-50V)
600VA+ should be enough for 2x50W class-A though the amps will need at least 1.77A bias each (if calculating for 8 ohm), yields a total bias of 3.54. Transformer could supply minimum 6A DC if 50V /rail voltage. But if calculating bias for 4 ohms, then bias must be raised to 2.5A/ch which yields a total bias of about 5A = 500W power dissipation. Also, your heat sinks will be to small.
If building it for 50W class-A (if 8 ohms) then you will get some reserve power in class-AB up to ca 80-100W total output per ch (but maybe this is not the main purpose for you building project).
BTW, today I received some interesting information from Hi-Fi2000 (Italy) regarding Class-A cases/chassis. They have created a new model called "Mono", look here:

Flodstroem, i have a lot of elco's RIFA PEH169, 33.000 uF, 63VDC, 105 degrees.
They are brandnew, in perfect condition and are coming of a canceled telecomproject.
I ask € 10,00 each. By the way, what do they cost in Norway?

About that hifi-2000 case: i read a post somewhere saying they use rather thin metal plating.
Metal plating is not a good thing in audio-equipment.non-megnetic is better. I like equipment with the flexing-properties of a brick (like Bryston builds it)
btw: I ordered Jan's pcb's yesterday. they are ready 😀

How come? Far from all brands uses non-magnetic metals and from what I've seen the basic use of aluminum is purelly cosmetic (10mm frontplates and so on). Ofcorse there are a lot of statments that say it is so but are there any mesurements floating around the web?Metal plating is not a good thing in audio-equipment.non-megnetic is better.
Not making any accusations or anything since I don't have the knowlage to confirm or deny, just curious.
Re: Hi AndrewT
Do you have specs of that case? And any idea when they are available?

Hi
wim
Im interested. What are the size of the PEH169 caps? How many are available for me?
If you feel for it: PM me.

I received the e-mail from HiFI2000 today, but the only information I received was that picture and also they told me that it was a new model including a file for calculating heat dissipation for the model "Pesante Dissipante"??!! look here:

KMJ, from what i know its a bad idea to have a case around your electronics that's "conducting" magnetic fields (for instance from your transformers). I cant put it into words better because English is not my home-language and i dont know the exact theory behind it.
What i do know is that a lot of "high-end"manufacturers deliberately make their case entirely out of aluminum (Krell does)
Greetings,
Klaas

Well I have some good heat sinks for sale now if anyone is intrested...
I posted some pictures awhile back, and I "may" be able to get some more. The originals are on the soon to be x's PC, and she took the digi cam too...
Damn, all I have left are these kits and a stupid cat. 😀
I am joking.. But if I didn't have a sense of humor I sure wouldn't have much..
Anyway, I have several pairs(6 - 8) of nice, fairly big heat sinks if anyone is intrested.

At least you've got the cat, my ex took mine, then a month later gave them away to someone else...
Hi rabstg
(price?)
Regards 😎
Guess you had to post some pics to get response ? Size? color? dissipation factor etc....Anyway, I have several pairs(6 - 8) of nice, fairly big heat sinks if anyone is intrested.

Regards 😎
Re: Hi rabstg
8.5" wide x 8.5" tall x 2" fins
Heavy thick fins rounded at the endsfor safety and .3" base.
Anodized black.
I will go back and see if I can find my post with pictures. Also I will see if Repute can assist with new ones.
EDIT:
Al is there any way to search for a post and not a thread? Or how about key words IN a thread?
EDIT 2:
Ah ha! Found it:

And what I was going to do with them!

How about Freedom ?
My ex has 4 cats and about the same number of allergies, for some reason all of her pets rapidly die on her. A nice big Krell would have kept me warm and not have cost so much.

(the ex who preceeded her did not have a cat, but she was vegetarian)

I'm in for 3 of those bad boys.

Hi rabstg
Ok. They looks nice. Im in the need of at least 16pcs of those sinks (a pair for each side x2 sides x 4 amps=16pcs). Power dissipation per side will be 165-170W (for 100w class-A at ca 6 ohm)
There is only one thing left -pricing and shipping costs to Norway. Air is out of the question, only the snail-boat shipping remains. If this is an interesting trade, PM me. Note, I was planning to buy heat sinks from Conrads so.... I would like to evaluate any price offer to what I have received from them, ok?

WOW, big order, but I'm afraid I may not have 16...
I will count when I get home.
EDIT:
But yes you could make a KSA-100 with 4 pieces per amp. It was REALLY close for disapation of one cahnnel per piece. 😱

Did someone say Pass X?
In progress- parts, output boards. Me and my 1/2 HP drill have been busy creating aluminum filings, oil slicks and grease spots.
Will be interesting to see if I can get this thing working.
And if so, how a 60WPC A-X compares to a 60WPC KSA.
