Krell KSA 50 PCB

Took me a while to find em... quicker than trying to find it on my computers drives though. I just did a search for Stuarts name in the Solid state forum.

Perhaps we can get Stuart to pop in and add anything else he might want in there that I failed to find on the search.

Thanks!

Mark

P.S. As this thread approaces 600 pages... I am constantly amazed!

Thanks again Mark for your reply.
i see your point about the 27v zeners.
My transformer delivers +/- 31 Vdc (measured) but thats without any load(just 2 capacitors 10.000 uf).
i suspect that under load it will come pretty close to the zener-voltage.
To be safe i think its best if i try it first using my existing transformer before ordering a second one.
Better safe than sorry

Hi Mark and thanks for asking

I'd be interested if the cost isn't too high. Who will be making them? Would you please post a link to the GB?

I have not yet received a price for this transformer though I designed it right now, but if you look at my post in the GB thread you will get a clue for pricing:
http://www.diyaudio.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=74125

I should receive new prices in this week

The manufacturer for the transformers will be the same as for the earlier KSA50: Avel Lindberg. I have specified the transformer to be "dead silent" at 1/2 to full power output. It will be potted in a black round steel-can and all flexible leads will come out from the transformers bottom side.

600VA for stereo 2 x 50-80W class-A or for mono 1 x 100W+

BTW, the electrolytic caps for amps in this class are very expensive. At least they will cost
as much as $ 57.00 each here in Norway if buying 8 pcs for two mono blocks. Yields a total of $ 456 net and this is only for the caps, no mountings - phu...........
(specs for caps: 105°C 47,000µF/63V EPCOs)

Do you guys think there is an interests in a GB for caps ? Either it will be Rifa PEH169 or the BHC ALS40 series (33.000µF/63WV or maybe 47.000µF/63WV, all 105°C)

Regards 😎

"Damn low price" if I may say

Hi Mark
Sounds cheap to me. Are these type computer grades screw on poles caps?
Could you specify physical dimensions for these caps ? Are these new stock or.....?
How many could you supply etc....many questions you see.

My specs for a possible GB caps was for a very high quality, long lives 105°C caps. But to a price of 10 bucks.............well then Im in.

Sounds great to the trading suggestion. Would like to come back to this issue when I have ordered transformers.

You could also send me a PM/e-mail if desired.

Regards 😎

Mark, Perfect caps to my project

I was thinking of the prices for the semiconductors used in Krell clones and other amps described at the forum

One of the cheapest I have found is Newark.com. When comparing prices with for example
Digi key, they are cheaper, or am I wrong ?

MPSA42/92_______$ 0.087 each if buying a minimum of 100pcs of each

MJE15032/33_____$ 0.78 each if buying .........................25 pcs of each

MJ15003/4_______$ 2.94 each if buying.......................... 25pcs of each

Just to mention some examples.
Ore, is there a cheaper supplier than this one?

Any comments to this are welcomed

Regards 😎

Going once....

I have 2 Jan kits left if any one wants them.

If I don't get a reply by Wednesday I will convert them to Al kits and they will be up for grabs.

I hope to have 10 (12 if I convert the Jans) Al kits available by next weekend.

To be clear, AFTER March 14th I will have a few more kits and I will accept email requests.

EDIT:

I was looking for the Excel spread sheet BOM that I posted on the Wiki. Has it been removed? If so, does anyone have it as mine left on the PC I sent with my soon to be X.

RE: 12B4 and KSA-50....

I know that some time ago Al wondered if I had paired the two together... Since I had built the 12b4 I had not done so since my KSA-50 was torn down for quite some time awaiting a decent chassis. Tonight I have finally had the time to pair them up and all I can say is Holy Cow! This is a pair made for each other! This only re-inforces just how good both pieces are and the level of detail, soundstage and depth that both these pieces are capable of. The KSA-50 does not exhibit even the slightest harshness or artifact of its own on the top end. Magnificent! This pair has to be heard to be believed!

KSA kits

Emailed Klaas diectly, this is just general info for the masses.

Jan's brds were single sided and yellowish while Al's were double sided and green.

Cost is $75 + shipping.

Shipping can ether be insured and trackable via FedEx / UPS or UNinsured via snail mail postal system.

Out of country (OOC) FedEx /UPS is ~ $50, snail mail (ie postal system) is ~ $15 but is UNinsured and UNtrackable. If it gets lost in the post it is not refundable.

Side note, I will start assembling my KSA this weekend after I finish the kitting of the last parts... I am going to try the KSA-50 in the case I just bought but if they run too hot :hot: I will turn them into mono-blocks... I bought two of the 1.2K transformers for them incase I have to split the pair. :smash:
