Krell KSA 50 PCB

I do it for the love of the hobby.. And because I like helping good people...
Excactly, Troy😉 I still mean to suggest that the guy's spending a lot of their spare time, should be without expenses! Think about it, you put down some odd hours into this task, sending out everything to like 50 people! Those 50 people wouldnt even get hurt, if they had to pay you 1 or 2 buck's? If I am out of line here, let me know? As I feel, I would be more than happy to let you have that amp for free!
Maybe its just me?? Anyone tune in?

Troy that's the very reason that I have not dipped into it yet (plus I am lazy ofcourse).

I would think that if you were to graciously volunteer to help the group again, we should make it easy for you as much as possible.

Can we agree on some base rules?

1) We should order standard parts unless there is an overwhelming desire to do otherwise.
2) The kit should comprise resistors, small value caps, diodes and pots. Everything else including PSU/Sinking/Output devices/Wiring/Chassis/Power caps/Trafos/Bridges/ should be out of scope as all of us probably have a good inventory of these things. Also the variations for these will be more than enough for you to come up with a standard kit anyway.
3) I suggest Dales for all resistors as a start.
4) Polystyrene or Polypropylene for small value caps.
5) Overrated Zeners.
6) Have duplicates for components that can die easily e.g. Diodes.

If there is enough demand and if you are up to it, you can add stuff like emitter resistors, semiconductors (at least the hard to find ones) to the mix but I leave that to you. Personally I'd like the small transistors (prior to the drivers) to be part of the kit.

What do you think?

K-

May I ask the reason for Dale resistors? Do they have an advantage over other metal film resistors?

Thanks, Terry

What me?

Nah, I'm normal...It's you lot that are strange...😉

People are strange, when they're alone!

I have done a few parts buys in the last few months and I have a few comments on their success.

Always add at least 10% for cost overuns
Wait for the board to be in hand to test for Form, Fit, Function or get a very specific parts list from the PCB Designer.
Charge shipping as a seperate charge after the kits are ready and you have got a kit assembled.
Be sure to include all taxes applicable, shipping to the kitting point, any exchange rates if required.
Carefully account for all costs of shipping, Tape, Boxes, Bags and stuffing.
Always cost in extra kits for parts as you will have attrition in the shipping.
Never, ever let some armchair contributor badger you into a cheaper price, just because they can get a "similar" part from Scruffy Joes Junk Emporium.
Most of all, you got to have a sense of humour, strong desire to do charity work for the unappreciative or have masochistic tendancies.

My two cents anyway.

Capacitor types have a rank order in their sonic quality, with technical stuff for reasoning it.
Same with resistors.
These have a number of parameters, more than current noise, accuracy and inductance.
A number of people have done resistor comparison tests, Dale resistors, RN60(or CMF60), score prime quality.
Could be a fraction of the succes of the familiar US brands was because of them using the glorious Dale's.
And you are so lucky to have them easily available instead of having to spit out a lot of cash to obtain them.
And they look just beautifull, don't they.

'I' never said i was normal.

Steen and Anthony-

I thank you both for supporting the process and ensuring everyone knows what, why and how the process goes.

I would hope to cover all costs and not pay out of pocket but do not want to "profit" from this GB.

I keep my actions as clean as possible. I do enough to get me in trouble with the wife, I don't need to get in trouble here too!.

And pricing will be parts, shipping, supplies, paypale fees, and enough for 1-2% losses in the mail. If none are lost, I will sale the last kits and donate the money to DIYaudio.com.

I might be able to get a local Salt Lake City surplus house to stock parts kits. The thing there is that all the resistors would be surplus metal films, not necessarily of the same brand but of the correct value, all caps may not be exactly the brand you want, all transistors they would have to order and stock but its not that big of expense if enough people are going to sign up for this...... At any rate I know these guys pretty well and I could ask if they'd be interested in doing it.... The big advantage is that you could just call or e-mail them to order a kit of parts......

Just a thought,

Mark

Here is a list of those that I have received payment from so far. Thank you for your prompt attention to the e-mail and all others please keep the payments comming in as soon as possible. I am planning on ordering the boards as soon as I am back in Salt Lake City.... Monday the 25th.

Troy,

In my original proposal post, I actually wrote in that you should be compensated (and Mark) for the effort but I deleted the line after I could not come up with a figure that would be meaningful enough for you; such that it didnt double the price of the kit or on the other extreme, insult you 🙂 .. so I left it as is, I think your reward is all the good thoughts and prayers from all the people you help.

Also you, Stuart, Pinky, Mark and Jan (and any other I missed) probably realize, no good deed goes unpunished! Thanks in advance from me and everyone else.

As said earlier, Great Group!!:grouphug: 😀

Boards order

Mark

Somehow my mails do not seem to reach you or your response is blocked on my side.

My order was 2 PCB's and 4 PSU Boards

If I remember correctly:

Board 14 x 2 = $28
PSU Boards 14 x4 = 56
Total = $84
Estimated airfreight Postage $12.00
Grand Total $96.00

How do I pay you- Can transfer via paypal ?

Alternatively

Troy: Could you get my boards and post them to me ?
If need be also advise re exact costs. At least then I will know that there is no hiccup.

Thanks

Jozua
