Krell KSA 50 PCB

Almost everyone on the wiki Mark did not receive an email from have been notified.
With the exception of 4;
- Motherone does not accept emails, not even on his homepage.
- farl, no40 on the wiki, is not a member name on diyaudio
- Onlylaputa, no41 on the wiki, is not a known member
- fdawg4l, no42 on the wiki, is not a known member

The latter 4 had a total of 12 boards on the wiki.
I need at least 8 output boards, if there are no plans for separate output boards i'll take a couple of the deserter boards. :clown:

lgreen,

Your squarewave indeed looks good. However, the resolution of your scope isn't good enough to accurately spot ringing/overshoot problems (there my $10 grand scope actually counted against me with my measurements as it clearly showed any minor problem), but it seems more than acceptable for audio.

I became tired of the small stability margin with 22pF caps so I ripped them out and replaced them with 100pF to be on more than just the safe side. People may argue that the square wave will not look as good as with lower values - prove it to me that the difference is audible before I will believe it. I've seen square wave response of other amps that didn't look anywhere as good with no penalty on the sound quality.

Well, I turned up the intensity on my cheapie $150 scope for the picture to come out good but it kind of hid the thing I was hoping to show.. You are right, your pics have much better resultion. With lower intesity, sharp focus and changing scales, I actually zoomed in on the waveform edges and they looked no different, rounded with no little tiny waves anywhere to be seen.

My sincere apology to you guys, I'm out for a training for a medical equipment a couple of weeks so I forget to read the post. I'd already sent an e-mail to Mark.

Jacco,
Thanks for your e-mail. I really appreciated it.

Again, I'm very very sorry.........

Farl,

a lot of the members on this forum have busy lives, often too busy to keep track on a thread as long as the one of the KSA50.
I am part responsible of it being so lengthy, i should be the one to say sorry, not you.

All members on the wiki have either sent an email to Mark or have been notified by me, all except the 'single commercial lady'.
With two sequential GB's of the KSA50 , chances for a third are very slim.
So, i am wishing everyone on the wiki is still interested in participating.

Personally, i find it really cool to participate in a global audio thing
resulting in something really good and very economical such as these Krell boards.
Knowing that a fellow engineer in Dubai will be enjoying something from the exact same boards as mine is something i will be thinking of when the KSA will be "huffin and puffin" in my place.
I offer my sincere apologies to you, Farl.

Jacco,

Thanks for all your help in notifying those that I've not heard from. I now have heard from at least one of them. I will e-mail everyone tommrrow night regarding payment procedure and such and then when I get back I will place the order for the boards and I will have Brian GT do the same for the PS boards. He will have the PS boards shipped directly to me so they can be all mailed out together in the same packages.

I just sent everyone on the board WIKI payment instructions. If you don't receive an e-mail from me today but wanted or still want boards its not too late.... or I'm sorry that I missed your e-mail..... I am pretty sure that I did get everyone though. If I for some reason missed you please accept my apologies and by all means send me an antagonizing e-mail so you don't miss out . Thanks again for your patience in getting this group buy going along.....

ARGHHHH!!!!!

ozs.... lb I'm in SI zone....

for SI people append this table

:bawling: :bawling:

Ounces ( ozs.)(UK) and pounds ( lbs.) into grams (g) approx.
These ounces are for mass, avoirdupois, or weight

Ounces------------------------grams
1/4 (quarter)------------------7
1/2 (half)-----------------------14
3/4 (three quarters)---------21
1 --------------------------------28.35
16 ( 1 lb.)----------------------454
35 1/4 ( approx. 2 1/4 lbs. )-1,000 ( 1 kilogram)

I am NOT volunteering YET!!

I would consider making the actual parts order, kitting all the components, and shipping.

I am not going to create the order list, or suggest components/values.

If the list can be hashed out here on the forum and the order list finalized I can front the cash, sort the kits and mail out.

There would be the standard 3% paypal fee, the padded envelope and marker cost, and postage added to the parts cost.

I think projects get completed faster if one can purchase all the needed parts conveniently and easily.

If I had a component kit for Jans' brds I would be finished with them by now.

BrianGT did a great thing with his kits and colored one side of the resistor holding tape with a marker to identify the different values.

So blue = one value, red = another and so on...

If I ordered "rolls" of resistors I could color one tape band and then chop it up into the number each kit needed. It would then be very easy for every one to quickly and easily identify and place the correct value. However I don't know if the Dales and other exotic parts come in taped rolls. But then they would only be used in the signal path.

"If I had a component kit for Jans' brds I would be finished with them by now."

Troy that's the very reason that I have not dipped into it yet (plus I am lazy ofcourse).

I would think that if you were to graciously volunteer to help the group again, we should make it easy for you as much as possible.

Can we agree on some base rules?

1) We should order standard parts unless there is an overwhelming desire to do otherwise.
2) The kit should comprise resistors, small value caps, diodes and pots. Everything else including PSU/Sinking/Output devices/Wiring/Chassis/Power caps/Trafos/Bridges/ should be out of scope as all of us probably have a good inventory of these things. Also the variations for these will be more than enough for you to come up with a standard kit anyway.
3) I suggest Dales for all resistors as a start.
4) Polystyrene or Polypropylene for small value caps.
5) Overrated Zeners.
6) Have duplicates for components that can die easily e.g. Diodes.

If there is enough demand and if you are up to it, you can add stuff like emitter resistors, semiconductors (at least the hard to find ones) to the mix but I leave that to you. Personally I'd like the small transistors (prior to the drivers) to be part of the kit.

What do you think?

What do you think?
I think excactly like you, K-amps. I would like to see a kit with all the small parts. I have output transistors for several Krell's as it is!

Thanks a lot Rabstg, I dont mind, paying a little for your efforts in this way🙂 I know this is a tremendous work. Likewise for you, Guldbrandsen😉 You guy's, doing this, ought to be without expences, building the amp.
Just my thought's.
