KEF Q150 breeding

Got my Q100s and removed a driver. Best way to remove the trim is a small Allen wrench or something very slim (1mm or less) with a 90degree elbow . Fit it down between the rubber surround and trim. Turn 90deg and pull!
Did a few impedance sweeps in DATS.
They have the same basket as the earlier Q series Kefs. These here are from Q5 I believe.

Just trying them plonked on top of my bass units. They sound nice. Will put a highpass on them soon, 500Hz up or so. (passive)

Geez, the KEF is thick! Looks like I can use regular 10-12" woofers/subs.

The box behind the oval baffle can be quite deep if it is narrow. Then making it even deeper at bottom gives more space for Fa123. Smallish volume guides choice of the woofer. Seas L26ROY is suitable but quite expensive nowdays.

That is I think an 'NT19' tweeter. If not joy then you could maybe try using the tiny SB Acoustics ST14.
You can just see one in my image above that shows the 2 different Kef mids. It is smaller than the throat in the cone so some DIY will be required.

Igot email today:

"KEF hat uns heute mitgeteilt, dass es aufgrund der weltweit angespannten Liefersituation zu Lieferverzögerungen kommt und möchte sich bei Ihnen dafür entschuldigen, dass auch Ihr Q150 Kompaktlautsprecher von dieser Verzögerung betroffen ist.

Der voraussichtliche Liefertermin Ihres Q150 Kompaktlautsprecher hat sich nun auf den 18.10.23 geändert."

I had a few nights with the Q100s. As Kef intended bar a 22uf series cap to cut the lows. As guessed they have great imaging and spaciousness, but otherwise they need work imho. They get quite strident and also I can hear the tweeter putting up a fight at times. Maybe I have one going bad.? So I've taken them out of the (thin and tubby sounding) enclosures and have just today routed some baffles for them to try OB. Forgot my rebate bit so they aren't flush yet. Definitely need more than a 1st order XO so shall be looking into that.

Got mine flushed and with a 3rd order on the tweeter crossed at about 3k they have much more headroom and haven't had the protestations from them anymore. I actually have them in use with the XO from my previous incarnation with dipole Vifa tweeters (2 X 8ohm in parallel) and the Seas midrange. Technically very wrong as the Kef mid is 4r and the Seas 8R but they are proving that they are worth developing. I don't like them with the original Kef XO, but shall measure them soon and optimise.
