Markw4, don’t take this the wrong way but, could you crack a funny for us?
That's Ed's job.
Seemed to me he was challenging your posts, that's all.
Clearly Dan cares about sound quality (define that how you will) and as Mark ha pointed out he probably has very good hearing and very good listening skills. However, he also "hears" differences whenever he changes anything, and does not understand that hearing happens in the brain, not the ears.
So he makes observations and uncontrolled "experiments" and draws conclusions that most here would not. He has created a highly fanciful explanatory system for his observed results, and insists that his model is correct and the only possible correct model. So he keeps making assertions that do not make any sense to others, and which are not supported by any data, but he doesn't qualify them. He doesn't say "I have observed phenomenon X and I believe a possible explanation is Y", rather he says that certain unobserved things exist and those things account for what he has observed. This, quite understandably, is annoying to serious people who do not trust his observations and think his explanatory framework sounds silly and is inconsistent with solid knowledge. Then he claims that he is the real scientist, even though he seems not to understand science.
and does not understand that hearing happens in the brain, not the ears.
.
The absurdity of that statement far outweighs anything Dan has mentioned.
Exactly, but in the context it was used it was absurd.......much as if what we see isn’t real!
What YOU see is not what I see. Our colour vision will be different for starters.
Again......exactly!
So who is anyone to say what another hears or not?
I don’t hear it so there’s no way another can? Such BS
Yes those are my initials 😛
The issue you are missing is that Dan isn't just saying he can hear something, but that its 'not subtle' or 'night and day' and has given lots of anecodotes of people from singers on stage to some random lady in a shop hearing differences. The are extraordinary claims and do require evidence to be believed. So far there is none.

At least he's getting exercise. I should put my monitor up on the desk and do more reading on the exercise bike. I'm a renter and the landlord pays someone to mow my lawn.Protecting his fingers from overuse.
Yes, I stop in here once in a while to see that you're all still wasting time instead of mowing the lawn like she asked you to.
Well, back to the yard I go. Have fun all.
We need measured temperatures (either F or C, we can convert), and also the percent relative humidity. West Coasters who visit Atlanta have experienced high temperatures before, but are shocked at how uncomfortable they feel from the high humidity! It's probably for the best, else we would be even MORE overrun by out-of-towners moving in.It's a subjective description unless you can share the measured numbers. How hot is it?
What makes this area of the country livable is a special temperature-and-humidity-controlling technology called Air Conditioning.

I’m hearing positive differences in some of the files he’s posted.....especially the Jethro Tull, now I have no idea if I can believe what he’s saying or verify what he’s done but there are definite improvements ‘subjectively’. And if those improvements don’t show in measurements as they ‘should’ then something is wrong with the status quo.
I’m not equipped or qualified to do the measurements involved.......just the good ole dysfunctional ears.
So far every set of files published has had some gross error in the setup that is both easily measured and very audible. Once that hurdle has been cleared then maybe an apples to apples comparison can be made.I. And if those improvements don’t show in measurements as they ‘should’ then something is wrong with the status quo.
Yes.....I’ve been having a hard time identifying a protocol
But that doesn’t mean shut it down!
But that doesn’t mean shut it down!
After seeing driveway sealer and foil tape supposedly makes a difference I’m not gonna say this ‘goop’ is an impossibility until I hear (or don’t hear) it in person.
Especially when it looks as though some high end companies are using something similar.
Even if all it does is dampen a certain vibration that somehow matters....
it’s something right?

I feel another Tsung Hua quotation coming on:-
"He who hears what another cannot hear must take his own path to enlightenment. He who cannot hear what the other can hear, must take the opposite path"
Tsung Hua, Ancient Chinese Scholar c. 200 BC

Are you under the misapprehension that your audio cortex is located somewhere other than your brain? Or do you believe, against all evidence, that what you "hear" is always and only an analogue of the sound waves arriving at your ears? That is certainly not my experience, and there was nothing absurd in my statement.
I’m not equipped or qualified to do the measurements involved.......just the good ole dysfunctional ears.
You mean "brain".

Dan would not agree with you, he is adamant that goop has nothing to do with damping. You are relatively new here, so you missed his previous demo. He copied a WAV file from one device to another via USB, notice this is a straight digital file copy, no A/D stage involved. He did this twice, once through a USB cable treated with his goop. The two files were, of course, bit-identical, but he claimed they sounded different. Every person who heard the two files in his presence said they heard a difference, and the differences matched what he expected. Everyone on DIY Audio who downloaded the files heard absolutely no difference.
Now tell me about the ear/brain thing again.

Shut what down? Who said anything about shutting something down? If you want to play with Dan's files knock yourself out. For myself it's a matter of "once bitten, twice shy" and I have no interest in participating in Dan's tests, he's been spouting the same nonsense for years. I really don't understand why he doesn't start a new thread for this stuff. Believe it or not, I would actually like to hear John Curl talk about his designs, and those of others, but that seldom happens here, it's all dowsers and Bybees.
Very efficiently summarized.Clearly Dan cares about sound quality (define that how you will) and as Mark ha pointed out he probably has very good hearing and very good listening skills. And dehumidifier because air conditioning is typically understood as air cooling which is also used in south-west US where it's dry but often gets above 100 d.F. during summer. Before the development of air conditioner, that region of US was considered as uninhabitable, except for a few winter months of year. What makes this area of the country livable is a special temperature-and-humidity-controlling technology called Air Conditioning.
Enough with all that......my apologies, tirade over. Just get tired of hearing how people don’t actually hear. But as long as I’m confident in what I’m hearing I suppose that’s all that matters to me.
I think Streaming integrated recievers are the way of the future......my Yamaha RN 803 is pretty slick, if JC could design something like a halo integrated with dsp and internet streaming I don’t think he’d worry about cd’s any more......I’ve barely had my CD player on in over a year!

No apology required, and I hope I didn't come across aggressively. Of course people hear, just not entirely with their ears. I hear with my ears, and my feet, and sometimes my skin, and always with my brain. I am 100% confident in what I hear, and in fact just now I was liking what I was hearing and turned my head to look at my speakers, but they were not where I was looking. The sound appeared to come from a couple of meters to the left of the left speaker. I am confident that is what I heard, but there was no sound source in that location. Either my ears are broken or something else mediates my hearing.

What is the actual format and bitrate of good streaming services these days? I also haven't used my CD player in years, but most of my digital content is ripped from CD. I have a couple of high-res files but I don't stream them, they were downloads. I have nothing against CD, but most of my listening is vinyl. (I just finished playing both sides of Spoon's "Gimme Fiction" on LP.)
