Frank is downright delusional I must say. So if I put a gun next to his ear and fire it his ear can protect itself because the sound is not distorted! Crazy I say. Don't they have people in White Coats down under? Someone needs some electroshock therapy, preferably with Vacuum tubes and large capacitors as the power supply!

Deary me ... if one keeps one's eyes open, then you come across this comment many times, by people who are in the game of dealing with higher level sound. Musicians in the middle of decent sized orchestras, big brass bands, bagpipe groups are constantly being subjected to intense dB levels, over extended periods, they can't run and hide in a quiet corner when they feel like it, when they've had enough - do they have some magic powers we don't know about ...?
Been to the symphony lately , there is no intense dB , crescendo's very rarely exceed 110db for more than 5-10 seconds, nominally it's 84-89 db ( yeah i measured ) horns are the worst if you are in their path.
Many practice session son, part of the process if you serious about this, there is no 132db symphony, unless you listening to the 1812 in front of the cannon ..

Interesting you should say that - that's exactly what did happen to me, at the end of high school ... an idiot fellow student let off a starter pistol right next to my ear when I was unaware - my hearing had absolutely no warning it was going to happen, wasn't able to protect me in time. That ear played up badly for months afterwards, running off to the doctor and specialists, very slowly healed - but was always the weak ear for loud sound from then on ...
Fascinating how people always have to throw in a grossly exaggerated example, when trying to make a point ...

Yet again, people can't read words - I said 132dB peak, not average - I mention a magic number, and people think I want to listen to a constant barrage at that intensity - get a grip, mate!
If I wander up a live drummer, and he whacks a hard rim shot just as I pass by, there you go, a 132dB peak - everybody's ears on this forum just exploded at the thought of it ...

Frank please rerspond to what you said SPL's that are known to cause hearing damage don't if they are "clean" rather than distorted. You have no basis for this claim.

BTW, there are most assuredly 132dB peaks in an orchestra setting, a serious study found that such peak intensities from some normal instruments, at reasonable distances occurred - it's a real "issue" ...Many practice session son, part of the process if you serious about this, there is no 132db symphony, unless you listening to the 1812 in front of the cannon ..
For goodness sake even at 99% margin that does not even buy you a midling BMW. Their 100% electric car is UGLY to the max.
