I love the sound of cello used in jazz music. On Eric Dolphy's album Out There Ron Carter plays cello. It's such an expressive "vocal" instrument I don't know why it it's used more. Please turn me on to more 🙂
I've got a couple of Ron Carter albums, but I think most of those have piccolo bass on rather than Cello. Let me check.
If not already familiar with them, you might want to check out “the 2 Cellos”. They cover a very wide range of genres with both virtuosity and unabashed joy that is palpable even on the smallest of screens.
Considering what I’ve heard of Ornette Coleman or Rahsaan Kirk’s repertoire, there’s gotta be something there that could fit within the broad category of “jazz”

Thanks Chris, I'm not familiar but I shall definitely have a listen, I'm a big Coleman and Kirk fan 🙂
Abdul Wadud is another jazz cellist of note. You usually find him paired with Julius Hemphill and other alumni of the Black Artists Group out of St. Louis. Try Hemphill's Dogon A.D. for starters. It's an amazing album, and Hemphill's first as a leader.

If you can get into some of the more strange and bizarre cello music you might like Robin Dupuy. A French man living in Japan. I only know of him through his work with Salyu.

Check out Eric Friedlander, many colaborations with John Zorn's Masada String Trio, Bar Kokhba and others they move through different experimentations including what could be called jazz
It's been hot and sunny lately, could do with a change, not used to it, still waiting for the promised downpour 🙂
