Mine came yesterday......with the usual post office damage. Large dent in the Amazon box that creased all the pages. Don't matter, if it's anything like VA3 it will be in pieces within a year, from too much use, and less than perfect binding.
Not too bad.....it's almost a year since I originally ordered it.

Amazon's free 2 day shipping took two weeks to get here. Seems it goes out Fedex to the USPS now, then thru USPS. Apparently on standby everywhere.
The Fedex tracking number I got from Amazon was signed as received by the USPS! According to the local post office, Fedex and USPS have a linkup deal now. Unfortunately, the tracking number says delivered when it transfers hands, not when it reaches the final destination. I tracked the book from Amazon to Warwick RI via Fedex, then to Providence RI via USPS, then to N. Kingstown. 2 weeks later it arrived. No wonder Tubelab's book arrived a little crinkled.

I choose the non-free shipping option and it still went by Fedex to my local post office which delivered it quite quickly.. I had it on the expected date - Monday the 20th.
Yes definitely worth the money. I love reading his books. 😀 Much more manageable in print than my eBook copy in the Kindle reader software on my laptop. Books are soooo tangible.
I was delighted that Arthur Loesch and Stuart received mention in the book as well. 😀
The most intriguing thing for me is the statistical regulator and the Kelvin cap. The Kelvin cap is so obvious in retrospect that it is a wonder that no one thought to do this before. I have seen one or two in the ATE industry in high power switchers but never thought about using it in audio.
Most of all I just find it thought provoking although I design all my own stuff.
I love the "insipid green LED" 😀

Did they manage to get my blurb on the back? Morgan will shortly be spending a few days at our house; I will take the time to chaff him mercilessly about the shortcomings of his publisher.
Yes Sy your quote is on the back and I agree completely. I bought two copies and gave one away already.🙂
Looking at the center of the folded paper bundles at the backing edge, I am unable to find any sewn in threading. (a mystery as to what is holding the pages in at the bundle centers..) One likely will be looking at a pile of loose pages at some point down the line if not bound somehow, like most paperbacks end up. Can anyone confirm some technique being used to hold these pages in?
I have bound some books in the past by drilling tiny holes thru the binding edge and threading SS wire or fishing line tightly thru them. Tricky to get it right though (requisite straight aligned drill holes). I used a special pre-drilled clamp bar set to align and compress the pages in the drill press. It must be tightly compressed during drilling, or the kerf winds up between the pages and swells up the edge.

Morgan owes you a beer!
I was thinking of building a different regulator for a completely different animal (hotted up chipamp's input buffer and inverter a la Cordell) when I came across the "Two-Transistor" regulator in 4th Edition. What could be easier when you need some 10's of milliamps:

Bookbinding
Worth of comment
Do the publishers want us to read their books or will it make the book so much more expensive to bind them properly? I have Radio Amateurs handbook of 1955 in SOFT COVER and the outside cover came loose after 55 years . MyMine came yesterday......with the usual post office damage. I also have several ARRL handbooks dating back to 1961 and they are indeed still in good shape and they have seen considerable use. All are soft cover except for 1984. I won that one at a hamfest, thay gave me a hard cover version. However all of my RCA tube manuals from the 60's have fallen apart. I still keep all the pages in a box!
I think VA3 is in 4 or 5 large chunks of pages. Building Valve Amplifiers is still intact. Maybe I didn't read it enough.
