The manufacturer of the MEH system shown in post #5752, recently launched a modern interpretation of the famous Altec Model 14.
Reasonably priced at €4000 a pair.

Horn is Monacor MRH-200?
MONACOR: MRH-200

It's the Celestion (or Monacor) H1-9040P 1" 90x40 Exponential Horn, which costs around €15.

Flush mounting and smooth round-overs are not their forte.
Roundovers are hardly effective with such baffle widths. Besides, the woofer is mounted asymmetrically onto the baffle.
C-C spacing is rather large though.

According to a German magazine, the Model 12 performs well with all types of music, unlike the similarly priced JBL L100 Classic, which seems to have been developed with 1970s rock music in mind.
Some images of the comp. driver and innards of the loudspeaker.
Radial slitted phase plugs usually don't go well with short waveguides.

Factory plots of the drivers (Freq. resp. + dist. of comp. driver at 10W/1m).

It would be pretty easy to build a 2 way with the same, or comparable, drivers and horn that looks more modern and less intrusive. In doing so, C-C spacing can also be addressed.

A pro 18 in a sealed cabinet will not have a low natural cabinet F3, that's what the linkwitz transform or other EQ can change.Rss390hf
I don't know of an 18 sealed with f3 near 30hz, let alone call for sealed .707 less than 10ft.
B&c are pricy this side of the pond.

Trade off between box size and power needed.
Indeed fluid, with some exotic exceptions.
Camplo, the sim on the previous page looks promising, but I can't distill the ingredients on my mobile. Is the TD18H+ simmed in a sealed cab? The 200 Hz low pass could easily be increased to 300 or 400 Hz, in case the Axi prompts you to do so.

Yes, both sealed.
can I say that, zeroing in on the hf and mid crossover; The 15m has better potential than the 18h+....with confidence?
I think the 15m will sound better, but the 18h+ might be comparable to 300hz?
I can get critical dampening in a much smaller box than the 15m, with a 18h+....if I switched the 15m for yet, another 18h+ and then use slot loading to increase dispersion....I'd have a smaller foot print than with the 15m even....but the quality of the upper range....15m vs 18h+?

Based on what others have reported, including the manufacturer, the TD18H + should be fine up to at least 500Hz. It requires measurements to determine if it is comparable to the 15M. Also regarding beam width versus that of the horn around the crossover.

It's not quite the same, but close.

Do you have experience with the 18s XR series horns ? How low can they reasonably be used and how do they sound ?

Do they make this in a 2" exit lol?
- Home
- Loudspeakers
- Multi-Way
- Is it possible to cover the whole spectrum, high SPL, low distortion with a 2-way?
