Oh yes, much better choice. Actually, maybe we could ask for one more extra hole so we could put in a pair of tubes then we could incorporate a White cathode follower. 🙄

There are many fake ECC803S on ebay so care has to be taken. Only the box is original. Even the diamond at the bottom of the tube is faked......
It is quite interesting with the frame grid in this tube. The datasheet promise a balanced tube by default.

Probably the Cinemag makes "enough" 2nd harmonic/THD?
It is also a nice bandpass filter which limits LF/HF "noise" so power amp gets "clean" music?
"Turntable people" gets a built-in rumble-filter?

Hope I am able to get a balanced version..........when time comes.......then I get double of everything.
I changed my mind from SE to Balanced after realising my DAC has XLR-out so could be fun to try.........

I noticed an interesting thing about the bal version when used with a “6db gain trafo(1+1:1+1 or repetear how ZM calls them)”
If you feed 1v bal you will get 1v se or 2v bal.
If you feed 1v se you will get 2v se and 4v bal.

So if I am not wrong, depending on how you feed it you could get 4x the gain.

that is normal for Iron Pre construction, speaking of Ballanced ........ but I believe you made slight mistake in second line of your calculus

Feed it with 2Vrms to Bal input, you get 4Vrms Bal out ( and 2Vrms at SE out RCA connector, if you mount one)

Feed it with 1Vrms to SE input, you get 4Vrms Bal out ( and 2Vrms at SE out RCA connector, if you mount one)

I believe I wrote that several times in origin thread https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/whats-wrong-with-the-kiss-boy.293169/ , also explaining why each input for Balanced iteration must be hardwired either as SE or as Bal , and each SE input internally must be "armed" for full functionality - simply placing tiny jumper on appropriate pins

Please give my spot in the queue for Iron pre to sombody else, I have too many preamps, both active and passive and am currenly purchasing the minidsp flex eight and going fully active for my main music and movie system ( using several first watt, sit and sizzy amps).
