I suppose if you don't mind me cluttering up the thread with 1000 questions, I agree. I'll warm up the ironwe are Fearless Preamplifier Builders

Almost done with the iron pre SE today and my bad missed ordering the 470uf/35v caps for C1-4. Realised I have few Nichicon but only in 25vdc which I believe will be too close to the rail voltage and not recommended. Now need to order again.

Come on in, the water's warm. 🙂I suppose if you don't mind me cluttering up the thread with 1000 questions, I agree. I'll warm up the iron
I’ve found THIS SOURCE to be reliable if you don’t care to place a Mouser or Digikey order.missed ordering the 470uf/35v caps for C1-4
Hi guys. After some correspondence with a member having built the Iron Pre and his enthusiasm for it with a couple of power amps like mine, I am 'registering interest '!. I suppose I imagined a list of names but alas I don't see one. So whatever registering interest involves, I'm keen to get in on it. If it means waiting for them to appear in the store then fair enough but if there's a shortlist I missed, I'd sure like to be on it.
Cheers!
Cheers!
Almost done with the iron
overall disclaimer for elcos - only C1 and C2 needs to be Vdc=Usec*1.41
if you take that practically there (reg input then diode bridge) is more than 2*18Vac (stabilization factor of small xformers being lousy) , and one always must account on mains voltage fluctuation of +/-10%, 35Vdc is nice figure for these two caps
every other afterwards - 16Vdc is enough - simply because rail is regulated and never above 15Vdc
Thanks Kevin I am not sure how good are those Gem con capacitors never used them. Good idea to scout on eBay or Amazon as I need only 4 caps rather than from Digikey or Mouser. But is it fine to use 25v caps on C1-4 considering 18vac transformer secondary?I’ve found THIS SOURCE to be reliable if you don’t care to place a Mouser or Digikey order.
Thanks ZM, I do have 50vdc caps which I can use in C1 & 2 and use 25vdc caps for C3 & 4.overall disclaimer for elcos - only C1 and C2 needs to be Vdc=Usec*1.41

He’s got other brands…check the sellers store. I bought my relays for him. Just suggesting it as a possibility for onesy twosy parts.Gemcon capacitors?

I've had a few PMs and seen a few messages similar within the thread. I am willing to backpedal a bit, if everyone else is, and if Jason is...
Tell ya what... I will ASK Jason. IF when the final 72 hour period is up... and IF there are kits left... IF we can... Add some names to a list...
No promises, but I'll be sure to let people know.
Here's how I will propose that we do it, so it's the most fair to everyone. First, I need to give people some time to get on 'the list'. If people hear that there's yet another list that they missed out on, they might come after me... and I'm faint of heart...
So, if you want to be 'on the list' and have an opportunity to get a kit perhaps before they go to the store...
PM ME with the following information. Please DO NOT post here. I'm asking for some duplicate information, so it will make it easier for me to cut and paste.
Subject Line - Iron Pre List
Your DIYAudio Alias / Member name
The email address to which you would like your invitation and password sent
The number of kits you are interested in buying of each type.
Example -
ItsAllInMyHead
usethisbsaddress@gmail.com
Balanced - 0
SE - 1
IF Jason agrees, and if there are kits left. AT LEAST ONE WEEK after the last 72 hour window has closed, invitations will go out to the new group.
I (we) will NOT provide estimated quantities available. Unlike the previous groups, there is no guarantee that if you're in the group, that you will get a kit. Everyone will get their invitation at the same time. It may not be a convenient time for you. Apologies, but it will not be ordered in terms of first interest expressed / first invitation sent. That would not be fair to people that didn't know we MAY do another list. If this happens, we'll post the time and date that invitations will be sent a few days ahead of time, right here in this very forum. No e-mails, no PMs.
Who is this open to? Anyone that missed out or didn't happen to get the kit they really wanted if it was sold through by the time they got their invitation. Anyone that was never on a list in the first place... really anyone that hasn't already bought one SE and one Balanced or makes a good case.
Sorry for the CAPS and/or bold. It's not meant to be shouty.... It's meant to be sure that we minimize further questions.
If you or anyone you know would like to participate, PMs will be checked.
Send virtual hugs to Jason if he's agreeable.... or even if he's not.
Iron turtle?Thanks Patrick.
It was not a trick question. This is such an interesting, absorbing, satisfying, rewarding (most of the time) hobby. Just wondering what next? Which amp to build to match with the IP? Just thinking and wondering. Too much to build, too little time.
^ The Turtle is an AVC module for the Iron Pumpkin Pre-amp... I lust after the Pumpkin. When ZM says he's found a new source for the Turtles... I've got my hand on the 'order button'.
When ZM says
plenty of cores (both Metglas and Finemet) in boxes on shelf, "just" working on securing steady production of coils
Many thanks for this. I hope I wasn't revisiting old ground.Hi Jim, AND ANY OTHERS!!

^ Noooooooooo. Not at all. I know I'm thrilled that people love this project. It's truly one of my favorites.
The tough balance that I see from my side is not disappointing you all if there are not enough, but... 🤷♂️ There will be more.
If people are willing to throw their hand in the air and say something akin to "PICK ME, PLEASE", then I'll do what I can to see what can be done... but... it's just gotta be as fair as practical.

A quick question before I power up my preamp. Looking at the first post with regards to the C11 silk screen error with the '+' sign on the outside I see that on my version of the PCB board their is no + sign on the outside but its inside of the cap marking. And should i now follow the silk screen to mount the cap or go with the first post correction to reverse the cap with the silk screen?
Thanks

There is a minor error on the silkscreen for the 2023 SE boards. The polarity notation for C11 visible when the cap is installed is incorrect. Ignore it.
