HI,
I have some pretty good 4.7uf polypropelene caps, would i be able to use them instead of the 2.2 input dc blocking caps or would the higher value have any negative effect?

The unit will take twice as long to turn on and settle down, no big deal. Any really low freq. trash coming in will be passed along. The real problem with larger caps is their size makes them more susceptible to picking up high freq. switching noise and adding distortion. If they are mounted externally and away from the board this shouldn't be a problem. I would say, go for it!

I try not to use dc blocking caps, they degrade sound and filters away bass. I put the polume control on the poweramp input and the input directly to the pot, that way the pot becomes sortof dc blocking as it has to be turned to max or near to make the amp give out any to the speakers dangerously high dc level.
Hallo LF ,
thank you for this Schematic ,
can you explain what you have done ?
Enjoy the music with the T-Amp

So if you put the PS cap on bottom, you don't need to remove the 5 caps on top?
You said put the PS cap + leg to "positive pin between smd caps." Where exactly is this? Is it just connecting C11 and C12 smd caps in the middle? Thanks.

Hallo T- Amp Tweakers ,
today i found a good source for Coppercable
to wind inductors .
Magura posted this link on Elektronic and Parts
synflex.com
Thank you very much Magura for this link !
Happy winding !

@lf, based on the latest picture you've posted, if I'm not going to use the dcv socket built onboard the pcb, should I attach the (+) dcv directly to the positive leg of the 2 1000uf caps and the (ground)dcv to any of the ground points? Thanks again for posting the pics, very helpful 🙂
I just finished AMP3 from www.41.com... and this is not an advertisement...
And let me tell you something

AMP3 is better than moded SI T-Amp.

That's going to make some people happy and others no so (depending on their philosophy!) 😉
Amp3/SI question
This also has been my experience. The real question is why. If it is just parts it can be corrected but if it is a defective PC board not much sense in going further with it. This is why I was so interested in the output inductor swap out, but remember this is only ½ the output filter. There are still the caps to consider. If the Amp3 is using higher quality parts this could be the rest of story and needs to be investigated. I have read nothing about this in any of the posts.

Re: Amp3/SI question
I think it is maybe the value of the caps in the output filter and not the quality. The SI caps are 0.47 ufd. In these size packages they are all XR7 multilayer ceramics.
I do not know the size used in the AMP3. Could be 0.22 which is what is recommended for 8 ohm speakers. The zorbel is also on the SI, another 0.47 in series with a 10 ohm resistor.
I have considered removing the 0.47 output filter caps in mine and using a lower value. But right now it is still going on its first 100 hrs of use. Once it gets to 100 hrs I may yank it apart again to make changes.
I am very interested in the AMP6. I am too old to do working with all this SM stuff.

Amp3/SI question
George,
I have my repackaged and upgraded SI lent out and am using the Amp3 for my computer so I can't do any checking or tests right now but this sounds promising. I do know they are very sensitive in this area as removing the .15 uf caps from the outputs made a significant sonic improvement. All this stuff is outside the loop so is more critical of part quality and value. Does make you wonder how good they will be with all these problems solved. The involvement they invoke is so pleasant a change I don’t think I could stand to go back to conventional amps.
In fact the new wave of class d amplification is so refined and revealing that the recording engineers may have to get their heads out of the sand and make some decent recordings. That would be nice!
